    3. Hello, I am Lilly and I am probably the one causing several of you to see a message about language program or something. I live in Syria. I type and send emails only in English, because that is my only language. But occasionally a computor may detect a different language needed. You will notice that even though you decline or ignore the message you can still read my messages to the list. I have been subscribed to over 50 mailing lists thru rootsweb.com for over 2 years, and this is only the third time this question has come up, so most computors do not detect any difference at all, and hense there is no message. I have heard from an American living in Japan, that occasionally the same thing happens to him. There is no problem at all, mystery solved. Best regards, Lillian Kathleen Martin great grandaughter of Joe Allen Martin and Nancy Elizabeth Doolen, both of Navarro Co TX. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John & Elnora Wyrick" <ejwaa@worldnet.att.net> To: <TXNAVARR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 10, 2004 2:01 PM Subject: Re: [TXNAVARR] Oddity when I start to open messages > This is happening to me also?? > Elnora Frances Cook-Wyrick > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "ljglenn" <ljglenn@prodigy.net> > To: <TXNAVARR-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, January 09, 2004 6:44 PM > Subject: [TXNAVARR] Oddity when I start to open messages > > > > When I start to open messages from the digest version of this list, a > window opens up telling me that I need to download a new component of > Internet Explorer in order to display the message properly. 1. [TXNAVARR] William Martin b. 1820 NC
    2. Lilly
    3. Thanks to many helpfull and generous researchers, I can now make an Updated Report of my Direct line, that of the Martin Family of North Carolina. Earliest Know ancestor is: William Martin b. about 1820 North Carolina He either died in Tennessee or in Texas, between 1869 and 1880. William Martin married Mary Elizabeth YOUNG b. 1-16-1825 NC, both of her parents were born in NC. They had 3 sons born in NC between 1837 and 1850: they are Nathaniel Martin, George Wesley Martin and Edward Martin. Between 1850 and 1854 they arrived in Tennessee, probably somewhere near to Lexington, TN. They had 4 more children in TN between 1854 and 1869: Caroline Martin; Basely Martin; Joseph Allen Martin (my great grand father); and finally Margaret Martin. The father of the family William Martin may have then died in TN, prior to the entire family moveing West to TX, or he died in TX after the move there. As of 1877 this Martin family, with wives, children, etc were living at District 126, Navarro Co., TX. Edward Martin was living at Dist. 127. Mary Elizabeth Young Martin died 12-22-1880 at Retreat, Navarro Co., TX. Please contact me if you are related. Best regards, Lillian Kathleen Martin d/o Billy Joe Martin b. 1925 OK.

    1. [TXNAVARR] Doolen family
    2. Lilly
    3. Yesterday I sent an email to this list which said that there was a African American Doolen family, that of Umphrey Doolen in the 1880 census at Corsicana, Navarro Co TX. I thought that I could see no connection between that man and my own Doolen family. However, I may have found a connection, through the name only. My Doolen family of Dist 126, Navarro Co., TX are all descended from one common ancestor, Daniel Doolen b. 1765 Ireland. This Daniel Doolen was living first in Georgia, and later in Kentucky where he died. Daniel Doolan was a SLAVE Trader. (Sad but true.) I am guessing, that Umphrey Doolen's ancestors, may have taken the name Doolen, from Daniel Doolen, because he was the original owner. This is an awful subject, but it is history, and it's my family's history, and if I can help anyone who might be researching Umphrey Doolen of Corsicana, TX. I sure hope I can help out. This may give a clue as to locations they lived at. Best regards, Lillian Kathleen Martin

    1. [TXNAVARR] Doolen family
    2. Lilly
    3. I am a descendant of Nancy Elizabeth Doolen b. 1861 Navarro Co TX, married to Joe Allen Martin b. 1867 TN. In the 1880 census, at Navarro Co TX there are 4 Doolen families listed. #1. Is the family of my ancestor: living at Dist. 126, Navarro Co., TX. Sarah Doolen b. 1825 IL. She is Sarah Foster, who married William Doolen. They came from Marion Co IL to Navarro Co TX. William died 1865 in Texarkana, Bowie Co TX. In the 1880 census, Sarah Doolen, the widow, is shown with 2 kids living at home still: my ancestor :Nancy Elizabeth Doolen, and her brother Wesley Simpson Doolen. I would like to know what MORE children did William and Sarah (Foster) Doolen have??? #2. George Doolen b. 1850 IL, father born KY, mother born VA. Living in 1880 census at Dist 126, Navarro Co., TX. Wife is Sophia Swearinger b. 1854 AL. Their son is Washington Doolen, 10 monts old, born in TX. The mother of Sophia Swearinger, who is named as Mrs. Annie Gardener, is born 1816 NC,, and she is living in with them. They live 4 houses away from my other ancestor, Mary Martin b. 1825 NC, widow of William Martin #3. James Doolen b. 1841 IL, father born KY and Mother born IL. His wife is Margaret b. 1836 IL. Their kids are: John William Doolen, Arthur Doolen, Ona Doolen, Hetty Doolen, Horace Doolen, and a niece named Frances Stockton is living in with them as well, at Dist. 126, Navarro Co., TX in 1880 census. #4. Jesse H. Doolen b. 1851 IL, father born KY, mother born IL. His wife is Lucy C. b. 1850 TN, and their daughter is Florie E. Doolen b. 1879 TX. They are also at Dist 126, Navarro Co., TX in 1880 census. Jesse H. Doolen is listed as DEPUTY SHERIFF. PLEASE NOTE: Jesse H. Doolen is Deputy Sheriff of Navarro Co TX in 1880, the SHERIFF of Navarro Co, TX from 4-8-1876 to 11-1884 is EWING ERIC DUNN b. 1835 d. 1917. This above Ewing Eric Dunn is married to Rachel C. Doolen. I do NOT yet know the parents of this Rachel Doolen, but I can guess she is related to Jesse Doolen, the Deputy Sheriff. My Main Question is: HOW do these 4 Doolen households in 1880 census relate to one another? As you can see from the 1880 census report, George, James and Jesse Doolen ALL come from father's who were born in KY. Are they brothers or cousins? Who is the father of each of them? Also, each one of them was born in IL. MORE DOOLEN RECORDS: Alfred H. Doolen b. about 1840, married Eliza J. Petty 4-9-1866 at Navarro Co., TX. Sarah M. Doolen married S.T. Chambliss 11-20-1890 at Corsicana, Navarro Co, TX. NOTE: I will do a separate report about the CHAMBLISS family. Please Note: There is one other Doolen Family of Corsicana, Navarro Co, TX which is an African American family. 1880 census: The father is Umphrey Doolen b. 1842 MS, wife is Dice (Dicey) b. 1842 SC, the kids are: Dora A., Ned, and Wash. I do not know of any connection to my Doolen family. Last note of interest: James Doolen, who was a Confederate Army Vet. in TX, and later a Judge in Cottle Co., TX, is the son of William Doolen b. 1790 GA. He is related to my Doolen family, he is a first cousin to my ancestor William Doolen b. 1820 IL, who married Sarah Foster b. 1825 IL. Judge James Doolen came to Texas from Fayette Co. IL. Best regards, Lillian Kathleen Martin d/o Billy Joe Martin b. 1925 OK

    1. [TXNAVARR] Martin Family Update
    2. Lilly
    3. This is NEW information just found: William Martin, b. about 1820, give or take 5 years, born in NC. He died between 1880 and 1869, either in TX or TN. He married Mary Young b. 1825 NC, both of her parents were born NC. William and Mary had 2 children in NC: Nathaniel Martin b. 1837 NC and George Wesley Martin b. 1850 NC. Then the entire Martin family moved to TN and had the following children: Caroline Martin b. 8-22-1854 TN; Basley Martin b. 1865 TN; Joseph Allen Martin b. 1867 TN and Margaret Martin b. 1869 TN. Sometime between 1869 and 1880 the entire Martin family moved to Navarro Co., TX. The father Willian is dead as of 1880 census, his wife Mary is shown as a widow. Mary is surrounded by the households of her 2 married sons: Nathaniel and George Wesley Martin, and as of 1880 she still has 4 children still at home. There is an Edward Martin b. 1850 NC, both parents born NC who is also nearby, and may be a son of Mary Young Martin as well. This Martin family begins in NC as of 1820 approx, then as of 1854 they are in TN, then as of 1880 they are in Navarro Co TX. It sounds to me as though this Martin family is following an Indian migration pattern, similar to the Cherokee Indian tribe of NC migration to Western areas. (migration/removal) My older brother told me we are "Oklahoma Indians". But perhaps his story is such because my Father was born in Oklahoma, but his father was born in TX, and his father in TN, and his father in NC. Perhaps the "Oklahoma Indian" ancestry story is referring to a "North Carolina Indian " ancestry, which came west eventually. I have not begun to search for NC or TN Cherokee Indian records, but thought I would let everyone know I will be doing that , but I need help and advice from any Native American Martin researchers who might give me some pointers, based on my ancestry here told. The other possiblity is, that my Martin line has no Native American ancestry, and we only followed the same migration route as the Cherokee from NC. Best regards, Lillian Kathleen Martin, d/o Billy Joe Martin b. OK, s/o Joe Alfred Martin b. TX, s/o Joe Allen Martin b. TN, s/o William Martin b. NC and Mary Young b. 1825 NC.

As of 1930 census Joe Allen Martin is living with a second wife, Nora Martin, born in TX, in Montague Co TX. Joe Allen Martin b. 1867 TN lived in Montague Co., TX from about 1900 census to 1930 census. I don't have a death date for him yet. I also don't know when Nancy Doolen Martin died, but probably prior to 1920 census. The 1920 census at Montague Co TX has Dan L. Martin and wife Ada B. Unknown b. 1889 AL, both are school teachers there. My grandfather Joe Alfred Martin b. 1899 TX was in 1920 census at Montague Co., TX. The 1930 census at Grady Co., OK. He also lived in Vernon, Willbarger Co, TX from 1940 through 1962, when he retired to Marlow, Stephens Co., OK. He died there in 1968. The 1880 census at District 126, Navarro Co., TX shows Mary Martin b. 1825 NC, she is a widow. Both her parents are born in NC. I do NOT know the name of her dead husband, Mr. Martin, but he was also born in NC. Mary Unknown b. 1825 NC and Mr. Martin b. NC lived in TN, because all their children are listed as born in TN, prior to coming to District 126, Navarro Co., TX. So this Martin family is NC to TN to TX as of 1880 census. They left TN sometime after 1856. This Mr. Martin is the right age for Civil War service, most likely from TN, as his children are being born there in the War years. Mary Martin and Mr. Martin had the following children: Caroline Martin b. 1856 TN Basley Martin b. 1865 TN Joseph Allen Martin b. 1867 TN Margaret Martin b. 1869 TN In the 1880 census Mary Martin, the widow, is living next door to Wesley Martin b. 1850 NC, both his parents b. NC. This looks like Wesley is a son of Mary Martin b. 1825 NC. 4 houses down from Mary Martin is Nathaniel Martin b. 1837 NC. This might be a brother to Mary Martin's dead husband. 4 doors down on the other side of Mary is George Doolen b. 1850 IL, the cousin of William Doolen b. 1820 IL, the father of Nancy Elizabeth Doolen, the future bride of Joe Allen Martin. The 1880 census at Dist 126, Navarro Co, TX shows Sarah (Foster) Doolen b. 1825 IL, widow of William Doolen, living with her 2 kids: Nancy Elizabeth Doolen b. 1861 TX and Wesley Simpson Doolen b. 1864 TX. If you recognise a IL family, or NC family or TN family or TX family which appear to be related, please write back. Best regards, Lillian Kathleen Martin
