    3. We have a couple of Andersons buried on our place around 1870. They were Elijah and Ruth Anderson. One died in 1870 and the other either 1870 or 1876, hard to tell by the stone carving. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Cook [mailto:james.cook4@worldnet.att.net] Sent: Monday, April 26, 2004 12:33 PM To: TXNAVARR-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TXNAVARR] Doolen-Jones-Pursley-Meaders Hello Ann, Thanks for the offer, but I do not have any specific questions at this time. My wife is a descendent of Quinton Anderson, one of the several brothers that came to Navarro Co. in the 1840s. Quinton is the only one that did not stay in Texas. He moved his family to Parker Co., TX, in about 1856, and then to Oregon in 1858. We do not know why he moved, other then possibly the Anderson/Love feud. As far as we know, all the rest of the family that went to Texas, stayed there. We visited Navarro Co. in March 2003 and met several Anderson descendents. At that time we purchased a copy of "Richland Crossing" and heard many of the family stories. We also had the pleasure of visiting the original homestead on Pisgah Ridge and the little family cemetery there. My interest in the Pursley Family is just in connection to the Anderson Family. There was at least one Pursley/Anderson marriage and we met a descendent of that marriage. He has been quite active in the Navarro Co. historical and genealogical societies in the past. Although he has now moved to Alabama. 2. Lilly
    3. I am looking for a Miss Rose Sisemore at Corsicana, TX. She was listed in several obits. Apparently, she was a school teacher at Corsicana, TX. The obits refer to her as Miss, so she was not yet married. Her family were from Oklahoma, so she came to Corsicana for the teaching job. The surname is sometimes spelled Sizemore. I am going to try to find a time frame, don't know right now. If this name is familiar to anyone, please write back. Best regards, Lillian Kathleen Martin

    3. First let me say that I am not trying to sell the following product and get nothing from this endorsement... I also have the set of 11 CD's that contain the TX Vital Records that were on-line.... that Janice referrs to here in her message. It is simply great. Even better than the records when they were online because they have taken additional information that was on the original records and not put online and put them on the CD records. I have been notified that they are putting out a new Viewer that will do even better searches, and I believe it will be free to those that already have the CD's, so Janice... you and the genealogy room need to check into that because I already have it and I like it much better even though the previous one was good. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ms.J.HANCOCK" <janiceh@airmail.net> To: <TXNAVARR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 25, 2004 12:16 AM Subject: [TXNAVARR] URL FOR TEXAS VITAL RECORDS > Hi-- > > > > I am sending a partial list and will try to send the others tomorrow. > > Thank all of you that sent me a URL link for birth/death/marriage links. 1. [TXNAVARR] James Madison Doolen
    2. Lilly
    3. James Madison Doolen was born in 1841 in Marion Co IL. I believe his father to be William Doolen b. 1820 KY and his mother to be Sarah Foster b. 1825 Marion Co IL. William Doolan is recorded at Marion Co IL as of 1850 census, and then he moved his family down to Navarro Co TX as of 1853. James Madison Doolen fought in the Civil War in the 20th Regiment of the Texas Calvary under Bass. I believe that William Doolen and his other son son Alfred H. Doolen b. 1846 IL rode North and fought along side their many other Doolen relatives in Marion Co IL that they had left behind. The Doolen family all fought on the Union side, despite the fact that their ancestor Daniel Doolen, Sr b. 1765 Ireland was a Slave owner in Georgia and Kentucky, prior to the descendants coming West to Illinois. So the father and one son went North to the Union side, the side of their kinsmen in Illinois, and one son remained in defence of his new found home sate of Texas. The country was divided, and this family was divided as well. I am still is a quandry as to WHY William Doolen died in 1865 at Texarkanna, TX. I mean, what was he doing there? Was he coming back from the War and died of wounds or sickness? Or was he there on cattle buisness, and died? Texarkanna was not founded until 1873, and the Historical Society there say it will be almost impossible to find any 1865 death record or notice, as it is just TOO early. Any ideas??? As of 1900 James Madison Doolen had moved to Quanah, Hardeman Co TX and was the Postmaster there. His son James H. Doolen b. 1877 is also there, working as a bookeeper. By 1910 James H. Doolen has moved to Paducah, Cottle Co Tx and is working as a dry goods merchant. If anyone is related or connected please write back. Best regards, Lillian Kathleen Martin

    3. thanks Dale from Ar-sharp list-this was to long to include in my one email of links so am forwarding for others to use. Thank all of you for coming to my rescue :) Janice Here's the site with all the Texas records: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/Texas/ Kind of funny RootsWeb yanked them, but they're still on a RootsWeb site. Yes, it says cemetery records, but when you enter the county (or "all counties") you can enter the surname(s) plus any other keywords such as first name(s), year, "births," "deaths," "marriages," "divorces," "obits," or "cemetery." Here are some sites I like to explore when filling in dates, etc. on the more contemporary generations in my tree or when just being nosy! All of these will provide more detailed information for a fee (usually a hefty fee), but the searches are free and can provide a wealth of information. Often you have to combine the information from two or three different ones to get all the puzzle pieces, but it doesn't take long to learn the strengths and weaknesses of each. This information comes from public records and includes data on deceased individuals, too. 1. USSearch http://www.ussearch.com Often includes middle names and women's maiden names. Don't worry about knowing the right age for the person(s) on this one. Put in anything over 20 and it'll be happy. 2. InteliUS http://find.intelius.com What I really like about this one is that the search results often group everyone in the same household together (if the Mrs. and adult children have done anything to generate a public record). Check out the advanced search option, and if you're nosing around in Kentucky or Texas, they have marriage and divorce records for those states, too. 3. KnowX http://www.knowx.com This one includes marriage and divorce records for Florida, Nevada, Texas, and the SSDI (although RootsWeb's version is better). 4. PeopleData http://www.people-data.com Results list often gives month and year of birth, not just age. 5. Public Record Finder http://www.publicrecordfinder.com More state-level databases. You can get a free guest pass to search many databases including the CA birth index. Unless you pay for a "Premium Membership" you can't search by first name which is okay unless you're looking for a record for someone with a common last name. You'll still get all the results, but you have to go through the whole result list from A to Z. 6. Search Systems http://www.searchsystems.net Similar to #5. Find out if your doctor has been disciplined by the medical board! 7. AnyBirthday.com http://anybirthday.com Birthdates only. Type in a full or partial first name and last name. Narrow it down with a full or partial zip code if desired. (Use with #8 if needed.) 8. USPS Zip Code Finder http://www.usps.com/zip4/citytown_zip.htm Look up zip code for any location. Also has reverse locator which is useful with #7. 9. Area Code Maps http://www.nanpa.com/number_resource_info/area_code_maps.html Good detailed area code maps for every state. Even shows the ones about to be added. 10. MapQuest http://www.mapquest.com Good street level maps with actual satellite shots. See what your house looks like from orbit!

    3. I too, would be greatly interested in that URL. I live in Arizona and accessing those records are difficult for me, not to mention frequently costly. Please, please, please post it to the group, or include me in the list of people who would like to receive it. Also, I've just posted all the pages of my Mother's 1944 Talco, Titus, Texas Year Book on my web site, for any who are interested, along with her Commencement Programme for the same year. She's Mary Elwyn Collins Frugia/Frugé and she was born in Navarro. Sorry for double and triple post in case you are on most of the sites I am on. About 6 weeks ago someone sent an URL/Link in to access the birth/death/marriage records that use to be on the web but no longer are. I believe someone had downloaded it and put it on a private site. If anyone has this URL would greatly appreciate it be sent to me or posted to list for others also. It may have only been the Texas b/d/m records TIA Janice janiceh@airmail.net If tears could build a stairway... And memories a lane... I'd walk right up to Heaven... And bring you home again. 2. I was very sad to learn from your e-mails that Liz Gillespie had passed away. I met her at the Chatfield Cemetery Reunion last year and felt that I had a new friend. I know she will be missed at the Library and the Pioneer Village. My condolences to her family.
