Thank you Ann for taking the time for the lookup! Of the names you mentioned, I am interested in the Martins in Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery. I am not sure if they are mine, but the names you listed are all found in my George's immediate family. We have sever Mary's, a Martha and a William Allen. Perhaps this could provide a link to why my George migrated from Cherokee to Navarro County. Dates would help me confirm or eliminate these individuals from my query. --Patrick >From: "Ann Marcey" <amarcey@hotmail.com> >To: contrite1@hotmail.com >Subject: RE: [TXNAVARR] MARTIN/CEMETERY LOOKUP - OOPS! >Date: Mon, 17 May 2004 21:07:47 -0500 > >So far, I have found George Thomas Martin (Daddy) b 12oct1888 d 24 jul 1961 >common stone with Willie Mae Martin 13 sep 1895 d 8 dec 1931 -- Oakwood >Cemeter, Corsicana -- a possible descendant of your george. > >In Hamilton Beeman Cemetery south of Corsicana G. Lilly, From what I know, our two lines don't seem to be related. My George D. Martin did not come to Navarro County until 1913, probably after losing his farm in Cherokee County. George was born in Butler County, Alabama and ended up in Texas after being released from a military prison in Illinois at the close of the Civil War. Though I must say, I do not know *why* he came to Navarro County, perhaps he had relatives there. I do know that his people all came from Butler County, AL. --Patrick >From: "Lilly" <malik@scs-net.org> >To: "Patrick Martin" <contrite1@hotmail.com> >Subject: Re: [TXNAVARR] MARTIN/CEMETERY LOOKUP >Date: Sun, 16 May 2004 18:56:22 +0200 > >Hello, >I am a descendant of the Martin family who arrived in Navarro Co in 1878. >In the 1880 census at www.familysearch.org you will see 4 Martin households >listed, I am related to all of them. > >William Martin b. 1826 NC, to Joseph Martin b. 1857 TN, to Joe Martin b. >1899 TX, to Joe Martin b. 1925 OK (my father). > >Any connection? >Best regards, >Lillian Kathleen Martin >----- Original Message ----- >From: "Patrick Martin" <contrite1@hotmail.com> >To: <TXNAVARR-L@rootsweb.com> >Sent: Sunday, May 16, 2004 11:43 PM >Subject: [TXNAVARR] MARTIN/CEMETERY LOOKUP > > > > Hello all. Sorry I forgot to include the husband's name in the original post. His name was George D. Martin, born 1845-1846. Wife's name was Viola Martin, born 1853. Thanks, Patrick
Hello all. I recently "discovered" a lost relative in Navarro County. I had been searching for his grave in Cherokee County, but recently learned he moved to Navarro County [Purdon] in 1914. His wife's name was Viola. I'm hoping to find their graves somewhere in Navarro County. Thanks, Patrick Martin
All members and friends of the Rice Cemetery Association are cordially invited to the 52nd Homecoming on Sunday, June 6, 2004, at the Rice High School. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. in the high school gymnasium and will be followed by a covered dish lunch in the high school commons area after the memorial service. The Cemetery Association's business meeting will be after lunch, no later than 1:00 p.m. The memorial service will honor the loved ones who have been buried in Rice and those buried elsewhere since the last Homecoming. If you know of someone who should be on the "buried elsewhere" list, please mail the names to Joanne Murphy, 1700 Glenbrook, Corsicana, Texas 75110. This year's program will be a new approach and should be of interest to all. The Cemetery Association will provide barbecue, iced tea, and bread. If you're able, please bring your favorite covered dish or dessert. Rice High School is just south of Rice on the west side of the service road on I-45. A large parking lot is located on the south side of the school. Your past generosity has enabled the Cemetery Association to provide quality care, and with your continued support that will continue. If you are unable to attend, you may send your check to the Rice Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 117, Rice, Texas 75155.

Apparently the state is going to no longer fund the TexShare library program after July 1 and hopefully local libraries and patrons will donate the funds to keep this wonderful service alive and well in Texas. I subscribed to the Historial Newspaper part of ancestry a couple of months ago. I found it absolutely useless. Hard to read and you had to inch thru each column and sometimes it was only a last name which had nothing to do with the person I was looking for. So I cancelled it and got a refund after several calls. I do enjoy using the census pages. Did you know that both the 1860 and 1870 census are now every name indexed. This surely helps if you have a common name and dont know the parents name but do know a child's name. Saves a lot of clicks. -----Original Message----- From: Ms.J.HANCOCK [mailto:janiceh@airmail.net] Sent: Friday, May 07, 2004 12:55 AM To: Ann Hill Cc: TXNAVARR-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TXNAVARR] FW: Ancestry If all people will stick together and stop their subscriptions to ancestry.com and send a copy to rootsweb maybe they will stop before they price themselves out of business. My great, great grandfather was born somewhere in Bosque County area on 1-29-1856. His name was John P. Robinson but I have not been able to find any evidence that he was born in this area. He died 2-22-1938 in Lone Cedar, Ellis County, Texas. He married Alice Medora Killebrew on 1-5-1885. She was born 8-20-1866 in Louisiana the daughter of E. G. Killebrew and Sarah Ellen Fatherree. She died 4-10-1941 in Lone Cedar, Ellis County, Texas. According to family tradition, his father's name was also John and his mother's name was Mary Powell both from Tennessee. I know that he had at least one sister and one borther named Benjamin. Their oldest son, Ed Steven Robinson, was my great grandfather. More information is located on my web site http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/l/a/Ed-C-Slaback/index.html?Welcome=1083941575 Any help would be greatly appreciated. Rufus was the grandson of David Arthur Pevehouse and Malinda Pierce. They are buried in the Pevehouse Cemetery west of Frost, I believe.
