I am posting this for Andy in New Jersey who called me yesterday sbout doing some research for him. This posting is my act of genealogical kindness for the day. Does anyone know anything about a Garrison Clay Products Company in July 1920 in Nacogdoches County. His maternal grandfahter, Francis Reynolds who was a shoemaker from upstate New York, died not too long ago. He served in the navy during World War I and had just gotten out of the navy about that time. Among his papers was found a stock certificate #2 for 300 shares of Garrison Clay Products Company at $1.00 each. This was quite a sum of money in those days. Perhaps a half a year's salary for him. The family knows of no connection to Texas. They think for some reason, this might have been a contact Mr. Reynolds made with someone in the area who served with him in the navy. Was there such a company in the Garrison area of Nacogdoches County about 1920? Are there mineable, marketable clay deposits in the Garrison area. Did this company last for any length of time? Fall apart in the 1930's? Get bought out or never actually get started. I know Homer Bryce Stadium at SFASU in Nacogdoches is named for Homer Bryce of Henderson Clay/Brick Company at Henderson in Rusk County. We bought the brick for our house in Cherokee County from that company. Then there is the pottery at Marshal. So I was curious about this inquiry. Somewhere I have read seen or heard about companies or individuals who either for a hobby or business trace old stock certificates. However, I don't remember any particulars. My only suggestion for him was to make some inquiries through the New York Stock Exchange, somehow, since he lived so close, to see if it had ever been publicly traded there before trying to hire somebody in Texas to look. Anyone have any suggestions for Andy in New Jersey. Vivian Cates, Alto, Texas
