Francis Cook, head of household, born 5/1860, 40, widow, indicated that she only had 3 children from her marriage and all were living, farm was mortgaged, she could not read and write, born MS, parents MS. Dora, dtr, 2/1886, age 14, at school, MS MS MS Ellis, son, 5/1892, 8, MS MS MS Neley, dtr, 12/1895, 4, MS MS MS Henry Cook, 9/1882, 17, single, MS MS MS, listed as "head of household" and name is written just under Neley Cook. Since the number of children born and living to Francis and Mathew Cook is not accurate on the 1900 record and with most of the the 1890 record having been destroyed in a fire leaves a question as to exactly how many children were born. You know there was at least one daughter already married by 1900. The 6 yr gap between Dora and Ellis makes me wonder if at least 2 more children may have been born and did not live. I also found a marriage record of a Francis Cook to D D Crain; 13 Jan 1888. George Ashler, 10/1878, 21, married 1 yr, MS MS MS Salina Ashler, wife, 1/1880, 20, no children, MS MS MS I did not find a George Elijah Gibbons in the 1900 record and the Simpson County website does not show a marriage record for Dora and George. Lottie, wife, 31, married at 19, TX TX TX Unice, dtr, 11 Aline, dtr, 7 or 9 Gladys, dtr, 4 Ellis Jr, listed as dtr, 2 Nacogdoches on Rootsweb which is a very good website as it is one of the oldest counties in Texas with many records posted. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txnacogd/ Texas has transcribed records which include births for most counties. The births start with 1926 and include parents names through the 1949 records. Cook, "female" born 9-14-1930, Nacogdoches...listed twice so I don't know if it was twin girls or an error.
