Judy --- My favorite Texas history book is Texas: From the Frontier to Spindletop, by James L. Haley, publ. by St. Martin's Press, NY, 1985. (You will usually find it in any bookstore or library with even the smallest collection of Texas-history material.) I saw your inquiry, checked that book, and found a small reproduction of a photo of Adolphus Sterne on page 42. The original photo is said to be at the Texas State Library in Austin, # 1/53-1. You can also find a fairly lengthy entry for Adolphus Sterne in the Handbook of Texas Online, at www.tsha.utexas.edu, and that entry provides a bibliography of other works about him. He really should be little trouble to research, being as prominent as he was in early East Texas history. Good luck. ---- Judy Sinitiere
