Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/kkB.2ACE/941.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I used the following link. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgenweb/ In this website for the Texas Genweb/Roots web there is a section called "SPECIAL PROJECTS" . Click open the link that says "search engine". This link allows you to select a county and enter your surname which then opens a section of transcribed material for that pariticular county. Some counties are better than others on material as it is information that is gathered by individuals and submitted to this website. Nacogdoches happens to be one of the better links as it is one of the oldest counties in the State. Birth records that are transcribed begin in 1926 and the ones through 1949 list the names of the parents. Marriage records, in most cases, start in 1966 unless someone has taken the time to go back and transcribe much earlier records. I find it most resourceful. I also used the census records on Ancestry. com to find the family in the 1930 census record from your provided year of birth for Mary Elizabeth Crossland.

This is how I have one of the GRIMES families found in Nacogdoches by circa 1860 You mention Monroe GRIMES who was born in Monroe County, Alabama on 14 Nov. 1827 Uncle Roe, as he was called, was the brother to my gg grandmother, Celia GRIMES who was married to William Jefferson SCOGIN(there are many ways of spelling this name) . All of them were born in Monroe County and moved to Texas as a family. Monroe GRIMES was the son of Allen GRIMES and Elizabeth BARNES The 1860 Census for Monroe County AL, Burnt Corn District, Roll 18, Page 17, Line 7 is found their family still in AL Allen Grimes 64 GA Elizabeth 59 TN Catherine 20 AL Allen 19 AL Caleb 17 AL Willis (?) 13 AL James 11 AL in the next household Line 18 William Grimes 33 AL Arvilla [Mimms] 34 AL Amanda 11 AL John 8 AL Cynthia 6 AL Susan 4 AL Alabama 2 AL Children who are no longer living in the household are Elizabeth b. ca 1821, Monroe (as mentioned above), Celia (also above), Daniel M. b. 11 Feb 1830, Dorson b. ca 1838, and Caleb was Lindsey Caleb b. ca 1842. Since Monroe and Sarah Grimes were not my direct line I apparently did not collect further records on them but I do have a book written by Grover C. Anderson "Wright and Susan Scogin, Their Descendants and Related Families". While this is not primary information I trust his research. They were in Leake County, MS in 1850 but I do not have that census roll or page but they are living in the vicinity of (his in-laws) Wright and Susan SCOGIN. (Roll 376, Page 29A). No marriage record was found for them but they were in MS long enough to have 4 children. In 1860, again from the book, Monroe and Sarah are in Angelina County, TX. In the 1870 census, Monroe and Sarah are household #86, and Wright SCOGIN is household #84 in Nacogdoches County.
