Hello, my name is Andrea and I am descended from William McElder Vaught who was married to Lavina Means. She was a daughter of Clement Means. His name has been written as Clement and Clemen. I was just today going over some microfilm and found several marriage cert's where Clement Means was the minister who married the couple. Lavina is not my line but I do have some info on the family. I also found today a marriage cert. for Clemen Means to a Nancy King on 12/8/1867 in Nacogdoches co. Texas. I still have the microfilm and I need to look further into him because on the 1870 census it shows him married to a Polly. William McElder Vaught and Lavina Means had 1 child together before she died. His name is William Lafayette Vaught. If I can help with anything please let me know. I do have a marriage cert for: William McElder Vaught--Lavina Means Clemen Means--Nancy King Lafayette M Means--Martha Means*****this is a brother to Lavina I can look for more Means if you would like for me too! (Selma area), AL in the 1820s and 30s. There appear to be two brothers who came to Dallas County. One of the brother's, William W. Olds mentioned in his will dated 1850s, that some heirs were living in Texas, but does not specify. The family name was originally OLD and the "s" was added after arriving in AL. It is possible that the William, in Nacogdoches Co., TX, was the grandson of William W. Olds. William W. was possibly the son of Charles Old, who lived in the Edgefield District of South Carolina prior to 1810. I was hoping to find a descendent of the AL group who could contribute to the DNA project. We think that Charles Old was the son of John Old of Amelia Co., VA.
