My mother, Mittase Spivey, was named for her mother's favorite teacher, Mittase Holt. Mittase Holt taught at Ward Belmont college in Nashville, Tenn. around 1900. Do you think MIttase Holt Lockey could be the same person? I have heard the wonderful story about how she got her name and what it means. Are you related?

This man has eluded me for a long time. Here's what I know about him: William M Bruce, b.Scotland 1813/4. Married to Edy(Edith...last name possibly 'Bean'). First child Mary born in Texas (I'm assuming Nacog. county) in 1842. Was in Arkansas by 1850 census, and Marshall, Harrison County, Tx. by 1880 census and died there. What I WANT to know is where in Nacog county Mary was born, where they settled. Did he come to USA by himself or did siblings come with him? Who are his siblings....parents? You know, the usual info we go after. All I can find is an index listing him on a tax record. Knowing his parents names would at least get me across the water. If you can help, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks Elaine

Matthew Page, son of Abraham Page and Sarah McLemore, was born in Barnwell County, South Carolina. He married first Lucy (Youngblood, as I just found) ca. 1851 in South Carolina. They had pos a John (uncertain if age 8 is correct) James F, William Presley, Robert L, Jesse Irvin, and John (per 1860 Copiah Co Census). Lucy must have died soon after and Matthew married Sarah A Smith 17 March 1862 in Copiah County. They had Joshua D, Floyd M, Sylvania V, and Larence M per the 1870 Shelby County census. I am not exactly sure where everyone went after that. In 1880, I do find a Page in Shelby but I believe this may be Matthew's brother Joshua. I'm planning to work a little more on that one. I note several Page family members in Nacogdoches County by 1900. I am still matching initials with which ones. Would like to share any information with anyone who connects.

I am trying to identify the mother of three Seale (Seals) siblings who migrated to Nacogdoches Co. from Butler Co., Alabama. One brother, William Riley Seals (1833-c1882), was already in or around Cherino by 1860, and the brother James Thomas (aka Thomas J., c1835-1906) Seals arrived there about 1871-72. The sister, Mary Seale Jones (b. c1830), widow of Amos Jones, probably arrived with her brother James Thomas, and in 1880 was living with her daughter Mary Rasberry in Linn Flat. The three siblings' father was Thomas Seale III (d. 1842) and their mother's name has been reported to be Nancy, possibly a Perritt, but no one can produce any evidence of this. (The Perritts also came from Butler Co and from Arkansas.) Widow Seale remarried and moved to Texas, but I don't know the name of her new husband. I have found several candidates for Mary Seale Jones' children on the 1880 census and I need to verify if these are actually her children, in order to find living descendants: 1880 US Census, Nacogdoches County, Texas, Cherino, pg 235D: Francis M.
