    2. Judy --- My favorite Texas history book is Texas: From the Frontier to Spindletop, by James L. Haley, publ. by St. Martin's Press, NY, 1985. (You will usually find it in any bookstore or library with even the smallest collection of Texas-history material.) I saw your inquiry, checked that book, and found a small reproduction of a photo of Adolphus Sterne on page 42. The original photo is said to be at the Texas State Library in Austin, # 1/53-1. You can also find a fairly lengthy entry for Adolphus Sterne in the Handbook of Texas Online, at www.tsha.utexas.edu, and that entry provides a bibliography of other works about him. He really should be little trouble to research, being as prominent as he was in early East Texas history. Good luck. ---- Judy Sinitiere

    3. Judy I have seen many photo's of Adolphus Sterne as he was quite well known. I will go through my books to see what I can find but I have actually seen at least one photo of him online somewhere. . . I think. By the way, he married my g-g-g-grandaunt Emily B. Whitaker to Stephen Franklin Sparks at the home of g-g-g-g-grandparents William and Elizabeth Whitaker. Both S. F. Sparks and Emily's brother Benjamin Franklin Whitaker (my g-g-g-grandfather) were veterans of the battle of San Jacinto. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, November 13, 1999 1:27 PM To: [email protected] Subject: state legislator of Nacogdoches My g-g-g-grandfather was Adolphus STERNE who served in the Texas state legislature. 3. Do you really need the census, or do you just need information on your family. If your family was there before 1880, possibly they are in Nacogdoches - Gateway to Texas, Volume II, A Biograhical Directory.
