    1. Re: Did Your Family's Slaves Stay or Go?
    2. Hi Joel: No not in Texas. I only have done research on that in Alabama. Check out US GENWEB and cyndi's list of internet sites. There is a big list of Civil War info under her listing for US Civil War/war for Southern Independence. The US Archives will help also. One relative (Haney) moved to Texas with 3 Slaves. These records fade after the WAr. In Alabama, I did find one listing, but there too, the records fail me. I do know my ggggrandfather that on the census showed one, what records in the Bibles refer to "our hired hand"....These so-called census records sometimes are more a joke than fact. Picture this, you are standing with me outside of Bill's cabin. Since we are here to help him with his crops, the Census taker asks where we live and our names....We say here with Bill. Bingo--the records show three males living there. When you do any research, check the before and after years. I have found so many errors it is remarkable anyone got counted at all. Anyways, got to go....will talk this all nite..... Jon [email protected] wrote: > Hello, > > Are you researching slave ancestors in Nacogdoches Co.? 2. Hello, Are you researching slave ancestors in Nacogdoches Co.? I have done some research on my FEARS slave ancestors there. They were brought to Nacogdoches Co. from Georgia in 1859. They stayed in Nacogdoches Co., but did not continue to work for the slave holder. Joel

    1. Did Your Family's Slaves Stay or Go?
    2. After emancipation, did the slaves that your ancestors previously owned stay on working at the plantations or did the former slaves leave, never to be heard from again? Any ideas as to where they moved? What notes or stories can you pass along, in this regard? Would like to know if your family's slaves moved into the northeast Texas areas of Cass or Marion County? Most grateful for contact with researchers who's ancestors owned slaves in Cass and Marion Co., TX. Asking you to share the name of slaves as found in your family documents such as wills, deeds, diaries, tax records, as well as, any notes or stories you care to pass along. Can anyone come forward with abit of help? While I have your attention: if anyone is looking for information in the northeast Texas area of Cass and Marion County Texas, just e-mail me privately and I will be more than happy to do look-ups in my Marion and Cass County genealogical records. Just let me know. Much obliged. [email protected]

    3. Can someone help me out on something? If anyone is going to the library any time soon, could you see if your library has the 1900 Texas Index? I am looking for Ramsey's in that time frame. I don't know the husbands name, the wife was Emma Ramsey and they had a daughter born in Texas about 1901 and her name is Irene. My library does not have that Index. Thanks, Jennifer

    3. My marriage books were too recent. I couldn't find her parents on the census. Didn't look further. I did find - also buried in Oak Grove, Lester C. Tannery b. July 5, 1899, Alto, Texas, Died November 21, 1978 (age 79) Nacogdoches, Texas. Married Odie V. ______., son of C. U. Tannery, Sr. and Mattie Covington. ----- Original Message ----- From: Gene Tannery <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 17, 2000 7:55 PM Subject: Mary Frances Tannery - nee Price > My nephew, Clif Tannery, found Mary Frances Tannery in the Misc. files of the Cason & Monk Funeral Home, Nacodoches, Texas. Her death certificate shows that she was married but did indicate to whom. He found some source that led him to believe she was buried in or around Chireno, Texas. Her Parents were Ed Price and Maggie Lloyd. She died one day and buried the next, October 6th and 7th 1920, aged 28 years. Which Tannery did she marry? What Cemetery was she buried in? Who were her parents? After 36 years of intensive research for the Tannerys in Deep-East Texas, especially Nacogdoches County, the publication of my family history, THE TANNERYS, YOUNG AND OLD, I have never before found these names. 3. Nacogdoches Co. Cemtery Records, Vol. V, Carolyn Ericson gives this information on page 123, Miscellaneous Records. Tannery, Mary Francis - died 6 Oct 1920, age 28 years (C. M.) C. M. stands for Cason Monk Funeral Home. I checked the 1920 census and only found Clifton W. on p. 130 (Davis-Ericson 1920 Nacogdoches Co. Census) Household No. 34-46 Tannery, Clifton W. Head. Rents, M W 47 Widower, TX AL NC, Barber Redland Shop Son Lestor 20 Son O. L 15 Son Clifton 13 Daughter Pauline 11 Son Virgil 9 All children and parents born TX. There is a Will T. Price age 32 on the next page No other names ring a bell. I find no Tannerys in 1910 I don't find an Ed Price in either year. I do have a Maggie Lloyd on my database, but not that she married a Price. Maggie, born 1886, died 1977, married about 1905 is the daughter of Thomas J. Lloyd and Ophelia Elizabeth Lyles. That doesn't work. By the age of the children, if, Mary Francis were the wife of Clifton, it appears that he might have had three wives. Clifton W. b. 20 Jun 1871, d. 11 Jun 1957; Married Mattie M. Covington. They were buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches. Mattie M. Covington b. 15 June 1883, d. 27 Aug 1919. Since Mattie M. died in 1919 about the same time frame as Mary Frances, this does not work either. Mary Frances was too young to have those children on the census and I remembered seeing another wife buried with him. False alarm. Just wanted you to know that I tried. I do have some Lloyd information, but apparently did not connect.
