Mrs. Montgomery was born May 25, 1918, in Huntsville, Texas, and passed away March 20, 2003, in Bryan, Texas. Like her husband, J.T. Montgomery, former principal of Conroe High School, Joy M. Ham Montgomery was a career school teacher in Conroe. In her early retired years in Richards, Texas, she was active in church work and historical and genealogical research. In her later years, after suffering a debilitating stroke, she showed her true grit, perseverance and determination by slowly learning how to read again. She then went on to read the Bible through seven times, an accomplishment she cherished and we all admired. For Joy Montgomery, having Christian faith and a great circle of friends and family was her life. She was a great listener and always had a friendly, loving smile and warm hug for everyone she met. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her and will forever be in our hearts. She is preceded in death by her husband, J. T. Montgomery and sister, Juanita Winslett. She is survived by her son, Dr. Robin Montgomery and wife Beverly of Richards, Texas; sisters, Louise Sandel of Huntsville, Lucille Mann of Conroe, and Mary Jewel Mills of Houston; brother, COL Clarence Ham Juanita of Austin; grandchildren, MAJ Rosanna Dolphin of Montgomery, Texas, Joy Renee Montgomery of Huntsville, Texas, Jim Montgomery of Conroe, Texas, and Teresa Leach of Richards, Texas; 11 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Roy Harris, Henry Harris, Landon Mitchell, Gary Winslett, and Donny Long. ©The Courier 2003
