These guidelines designed to give you general guidelines to improve the readability of your family history. They are not designed to restrict the recording of your information, but to avoid common mistakes that can hinder someone from fully understanding what are trying to convey. We look forward to including your family history in the "NEW" History of Montgomery County Texas Second Edition. · Keep your stories in chronological order. · Your narrative can be up to 500 words, all words and numbers count. Anything over 500 words will cost 15 cents per word over. · A suggestion is to split generations into different chronological narratives so that charges will be minimized. · Include maiden names and any prior marriages. · Note nicknames or none by names next to the persons full name at least once in your story. · Use common abbreviations. If you do not know the common abbreviation, include the full word(s) and the used abbreviation in paraphyses next to it at least one time in your story. · Include any know locations along with time period you are telling about, even if it no longer exists or was not a formal township. · Include as many dates as possible where they fit in the story in the format of MM/DD/YYYY. · Be sure to include all major dates: · Marriage · Birth · Death · Divorce · Adoption · We suggest that liked named individuals by identified in some manner: 1, 2, 3 or Jr, Sr. · We would like to have a copy of your know family tree or a five generation chart for our society records. · One photo can be included with your family history for free, additional photos will cost $15 additional if they are desired to be used. · Extra photos will be gladly accepted if they help convey either family or county history, but it will at the discretion of the MCG&HS History Book Committee whether to use them or not. · Keep in mind that photos will have fit in the column of text it is associated with. If it is a large photo, detail maybe lost when it is reduced to fit this size. REMEMBER: You are the history of Montgomery County Texas!
