    1. [TXMONTGO] MORRIS & BODDEKER
    2. Sallie Cannon
    3. Jane, Although I have not found a relationship between my MORRIS family and the BODDEKER family, wanted to mention, in the will of my g-g-grandfather, Alfred William Morris (1846-1925), the two witnesses were J. L. Boddeker and L. L. Boddeker. The document also names J. Lewis Boddeker, which I assume is J. L. Boddeker. A. W. Morris was raised on the Morris farm in Montgomery Co., TX, however, at the time of the writing of the will - 1917 and 1919 - he was living in Galveston, TX. Sallie Cannon

    1. [TXMONTGO] Old Methodist Churchyard
    2. Dear Jane, I do transcriptions of cemeteries (headstones only, no cemetery records) in several counties in south and south east Texas. I recently did the Old Methodist Churchyard in Montgomery County. I'm submitting the URL below, if you would like to use it for your page. I have submitted it (and many others to the Genweb Tombstone Project as well. My homepage is http://theharrington.homepage.com if you would like to check it out. I transcribe these cemeteries with a digital camera, and index the images of the headstones for posterity. Please email me if you have any questions. 1. [TXMONTGO] A.W. MORRIS
    2. Sallie Cannon
    3. Anyone have access to 1870 & 1880 Montgomery Co., Census records, that they are willing to share? I need info on my g-g-g-grand parents, MATILDA PALMER/PARMER, and her husband, A.W. ALFRED WILLIAM MORRIS. Would also like to know the surnames of others living near them, if possible, to learn if relatives lived near. My A. W. MORRIS, appears in the 1860 Montgomery Co., Census, as: #28/28 A.W. MORRIS---38-AL M. """-----31 f--AK A. W. """ 14 m-Tx M. E. """12-f-TX M. M. ""7-f-TX M. B. "" m TX G. C. ""3-m TX A. J. DAVIS--25,-m GA L. W. SURGHNOR(?) 27,- m VA CROMBWELL-24, m -England C.JONES-33, m NH(?) GARDEN 22,-m SC GIDDENS--25,-m DC A. SHIRLLY 28,-m TN This info provided by Jane Keppler. If anyone has any suggestions or knowledge of the other adults shown in the home, I would appreciate learning about them. All are male, but some might be teachers, rather than farm workers. It is said that the A. W. MORRIS farm was part of present day Lake Conroe. He died in 1866, after Civil War injuries. Having a really tough problem tracing my A. W. MORRIS, prior to his entering TX, and would surely like to see if additional census records, would agree with his birth place as being in AL, and would also like to learn the full names of the children. Thanks so much, Sallie Cannon

    1. [TXMONTGO] quarterly
    2. For those of you on this mailing list that are not members of the society, this quarterly of the HERALD had some very interesting articles. Just because you cannot attend meetings, doesn't mean you cannot join and enjoy THE HERALD. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE HERALD: (1) F.A. Tally's Domino Hall--great article as this turns out to be my granddaughters father's line. Just started on this line. (2) C. W. NUGENT-- state senator (3) GOOD TO KNOW STUFF by Vera Wimberly---this one is great if you are reseaching in Texarkana, Bowie County or Miller County. (The Texarkana USA Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 2323 Texarkana TX 75505-2323) They have 9,000 original marriage for bowie County and 2,000 for Miller. Certificates are $2.50 and a SASE. Or you can email Doris Lindblad at: hstryhntr2@aol.com to see if one is available. (4) Old Names for Diseases by Clata McCarver (I will try and get this on the website soon) (5) Deed Abstracts by Melinda Cagle (6) Early Settler #48Alexander Brown There are several other great articles and a few obituraries. 1. [TXMONTGO] Conroe Loses Former Columnist and Retired Genealogy Librarian
    2. Conroe Loses Former Columnist and Retired Genealogy Librarian The genealogy community has lost a valiant ally, when Imogene Kinard Kennedy passed away on May 19, 2000. She began her personal genealogy in 1959, and when she retired in April 1992, she had served Montgomery County Library for nineteen years. Imogene Kinard Kennedy was born September 22, 1928 in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to Ira Neal Kennedy and Thella Mae Smallwood. She attended Cameron College in Lawton, Oklahoma, where she met her husband Leon Kennedy. In 1960 they moved to the Houston area, where Jean worked at Clayton Genealogical Library, starting in 1968. Jean was hired at the Montgomery County Library in 1973. In 1976 she was appointed head of the Genealogy Department, which was to be formed from materials pulled from the existing library collection. This had been a dream of hers for many years. She was able at the same time to bring about the establishment of the Montgomery County Genealogical & Historical Society. This organization has since become the official friends group for the Montgomery County Genealogy Department. Since its inception the society has donated in excess of $150,000, in money and materials, as well as countless hours of volunteer service. In 1988, Jean was the first recipient of the Montgomery County Genealogical Society's "HALL OF FAME AWARD" in recognition of her many accomplishments, one of these being the publishing of three books. Her book titled Genealogical Records In Texas is considered the definitive book on researching Texas county records and is still in publication today. She coordinated the Houston Genealogical Institutes in 1978 throughout 1980, taught beginners to advanced genealogy classes, was a sought-after genealogical speaker, and authored the genealogy column "Shaking The Family Tree" for the Conroe Courier in the 1970's. Imogene is survived by four daughters, two brothers, eight grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and numerous other friends and relatives. It was her desire that any memorials be given to the Genealogy Department through the Montgomery County Genealogical & Historical Society. Anyone wanting to donate can send their check to MCGHS P. O.
