    1. [TXMONTGO] Lost 1810 Tennessee census brought to light!
    2. To the List: If you have Tennessee roots you will be interested in a new publication titled "The Reconstructed 1810 Census of Tennessee." To be published in June, this 600-page volume will include more than 30,000 records of citizens of Tennessee in 1810. Since nearly all of the original census was destroyed many years ago, this reconstructed census will be an invaluable research tool. The work is based on names extracted from tax lists, court minutes, church records, wills, deeds and other sources dated 1809-1811 in Tennessee. The author made this extensive effort to track every adult male in Tennessee. In addition many entries for women, children, free blacks and slaves were also located. The book was complied by Charles A. Sherrill, a well-known Tennessee genealogist, librarian and lecturer. His earlier works include "Tennesseans in Court" and "Tennessee Convicts." For a sample page of text and ordering information, contact the author at this e-mail address: books4histry@cs.com

    1. [TXMONTGO] History Book
    2. HELP is needed for the upcoming History Book of Montgomery County. At this point, besides the Vol. 2, we foresee Vol. 3 & 4. If you can spare any time, please let one of us know. Areas that once belonged to Madison, Waller, San Jacinto and Grimes, we really need help. So if you are in any of these counties, let us hear from you. Besides, family history, we are looking for maps, old newspapers, court records, black history, hispanic history, church, civic, and the list goes on. I am working on cemetery history. If someone has an office they could donate, that would really be great. The society office is too small to store all the data and have meetings also. And with it being located in the library, limits the hours that us working people can help. TIPS on writing your history: 1. Make list of facts a. full names of family members b. dates & places of births, marriages and deaths c. chronological listing of residences d. occupations e. schools f. churches g. other affiliations 2. Think of family traits: a. physical characteristics b. ancestral nationalities of bloodlines c. interest 3. Think of family tradions: a. faith b. education c. observances d. trades 4 Review photographs When submitting history, we request it be saved on a disk if possible AND a printed copy. A disclaimer must be signed (we are working on this now) > Please label and identify all photos. Don't put off, start writing your family history today. Families "who never seem to get around to it" will be sadly disappointed when they see the book and their family isn't included. Remember: You are the history of Montgomery County Texas. 3. I am looking for descendants of Hans P. HERNDON (1868-1936) and Martha Elizabeth “Pattie” DUNHAM HERNDON (1875-1934). Hans and Martha Elizabeth were married in Montgomery Co, TX on 28 April 1891 (Mar Bk 5 Pg 224) and are buried in the Splendora Cemetery, Splendora, Montgomery Co., TX. Martha Elizabeth Dunham was born 20 October 1875 in Lavaca Co., TX to John H. DUNHAM and Martha Elizabeth MEYER DUNHAM who were married in Lavaca Co., TX on 31 December 1874. Martha E. MEYER DUNHAM died 5 November 1875 and is buried at Providence Cemetery in Lavaca Co. Her daughter Martha Elizabeth was placed in the care of her aunt, Mary Ann MEYER. 2. Glenda Moorhead Lamka
    3. Hi, I am planning a trip later today to Montgomery County to seek out a couple of cemeteries there. Our plans are to go to the Oakwood Cemetery for which I have directions, and also to search for the old KIDD Cemetery. Would anyone happen to know where the Kidd Cemetery is?, and how to get there? I would appreciate any help finding it. I was told it is near the Old Houston Road which crossed the San Jacinto River. there was a "Kidd School" there at one time and also the property of the Kidd family.
