For those of us who remember Mrs. Montgomery. Robin is on the board for the Montgomery County Genealogical & Historical Society. << Joy M. Ham Montgomery Metcalf Funerals & CremationsMarch 23, 2003 Funeral Services for Joy M. Ham Montgomery, 84, of Richards, Texas, will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 24, 2003, at Richards Baptist Church in Richards, Texas with the Rev. Bob Berry and Rev. Troy Winslett officiating. Interment will be at Union Grove (Pool) Cemetery with Metcalf Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Metcalf Funeral Home. Mrs. Montgomery was born May 25, 1918, in Huntsville, Texas, and passed away March 20, 2003, in Bryan, Texas. Like her husband, J.T. Montgomery, former principal of Conroe High School, Joy M. Ham Montgomery was a career school teacher in Conroe. In her early retired years in Richards, Texas, she was active in church work and historical and genealogical research. In her later years, after suffering a debilitating stroke, she showed her true grit, perseverance and determination by slowly learning how to read again. She then went on to read the Bible through seven times, an accomplishment she cherished and we all admired. For Joy Montgomery, having Christian faith and a great circle of friends and family was her life. She was a great listener and always had a friendly, loving smile and warm hug for everyone she met. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her and will forever be in our hearts. She is preceded in death by her husband, J. T. Montgomery and sister, Juanita Winslett. She is survived by her son, Dr. Robin Montgomery and wife Beverly of Richards, Texas; sisters, Louise Sandel of Huntsville, Lucille Mann of Conroe, and Mary Jewel Mills of Houston; brother, COL Clarence Ham Juanita of Austin; grandchildren, MAJ Rosanna Dolphin of Montgomery, Texas, Joy Renee Montgomery of Huntsville, Texas, Jim Montgomery of Conroe, Texas, and Teresa Leach of Richards, Texas; 11 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers are Roy Harris, Henry Harris, Landon Mitchell, Gary Winslett, and Donny Long. ©The Courier 2003

I am trying to find ancestors of Della Gibson who was the daughter of Thomas Gibson and Elizabeth Redding Cheshire. She would have been born after 1880 and before 1890. I think Thomas was a brother to my Franklin Pierce Gibson. I have a picture of that could be of Elizabeth & Thomas. Elizabeth was also my grandmothers aunt. Thanks for any help. <<<<<<<<<<<<<< If some more people do not register by Thursday or Friday, the WRITING AND PUBLISHING YOUR FAMILY HISTORY Seminar scheduled for Angelina College on 3/1/03 will be canceled for lack of interest. There is still time to register for it or the one on GENEALOGY AND TECHNOLOGY scheduled for 3/08/03 which also may be canceled due to lack of interested. If this seemingly lack of interest continues and is reflected in registration for the summer conference, July 24-26, 2003, and considering that the college budget has been cut by 7%, it is very likely that no other genealogy events will be sponsored by AC after that date. This would be a big blow to genealogy programs in East Texas and the Southwest because Angelina College is the only public college in this area sponsoring programs of this type. Capacity for any genealogy event is 125 people, but we must have at least six people to make a class. These events are important to the genealogy community regardless of who teaches them. In the meantime, Mr. Johnson and I have two very fine all-day seminars that can be booked through the college for a group will to pay travel expenses and the regular adjunct instructor contact hour fee. Just as long as we can talk about and promote Angelina College. Two reasonably priced seminars for your group within a reasonable travel distance of Lufkin, Texas. I am a regular member of this list. I am also an adjunct instructor in genealogy at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas. This is what I do in addition to working on mine and my husband's families. Please pass this information along to anyone whom you think might be interested. The bulk mail notice was mailed out last week. Perhaps a little late, but then the college calendar/time-table and the time-table for genealogy events does not always match up. Registration form and contact information are further down in the message. You can call in that you would like to come and pay when you get there if we have enough people to make the class. He was a Methodist Circuit Rider in the early life of Montgomery County, 1850+. He had a large family which he raised in the town of Montgomery. He was a merchant, operating what was known as the Dealy Drugstore in Old Montgomery. It might be interesting to get a copy of some court cases from the Montgomery Co District Court of the State Docket. I have a book with excerpts that says case #736 filed on May 19, 1859 accused Daniel Dealy of unlawfully giving liquor to a slave. On May 23rd he pleaded not guilty. Jury evidence: Nolle Pros. It does not say the outcome. Case #769, filed Nov 13, 1860 Daniel Dealy was accused of selling Liquor without a license. On Apr 17, 1861 pleaded not guilty. Jury verdict: not guilty. Case # 1018 filed Sep 27, 1870 Daniel Dealy accused of embezzlement of Public Money. Securities provided by Pleasant M Yell & Wm. H Bailey. No solution given. The book also includes some cases of an Edward Dealy. Case #663 filed Nov 13, 1857 accused him of gaming. 12 others were accused the same day. They all plead guilty and paid a $10 fine on Nov 19th. Edward however plead not guilty. On May 24, 1858 the jury found him guilty and fined him $10. He was called as a witness in a couple of other gaming cases. Case #800 was filed Apr 18, 1861 accusing Edward Dealy of Assault with intent to Murder. Apr 19, 1861 defendant came in person and plead not guilty. Jury verdict: Guilty of an aggravated assault, assessed fine of $250. "Gone to S.C" In my cemetery book: Daniel Dealey 15 Aug 1810 - 24 Jan 1888 buried in Old Methodist Church Cemetery. (He is only Dealy listed.) From Probate Records in the Black Box Documents 1867-1885. On 28 Jan 1879 Daniel Dealy and another man "proved the will" of my great-great-great grandfather, Warren Nobles. Also in the book: Packet #664 Daniel Dealyfiled 11 Oct 1883 an Application for Letters of Guardianship and order to sell land. Petitioner, Dan Dealy, represents that he is a citizen of Montgomery Co TX. That Ann Lou Dealy, a female aged 20, Charles Fredrick Dealy, a male aged 18 years, Susan G Dealy, a female aged 14 years and Fannie B Dealy a female aged 12 years, are all minors and are the children of himself and wife, Mrs. Martha Dealy and said minor children reside with their said parents in Montgomery Co TX that applicant is the natural guardian of said minors. Said minors have an estate consisting of 1/4 undivided interest in 66 acres of land in Montgomery Co. That the other 3/4 of said land belongs to the said parents of said minors. That at the present time the land is wholly worthless and cannot be used by said parents or said minors. Asks to be appointed the legal guardian of persons and estates of said minors. That minors have no income whatever and applicant is aged and infirm and cannot maintain them as they should be and educate them, he therefore asks an order of court to sell said land. Land was sold 8 Nov 1883. That's all I have. Just FYI - My great-great grandfather WT Nobles and his brother-in-law James Gary had a dry goods store in Montgomery at the same time the Dealy family had the drug store. Several of my family are also buried in the Old Methodist Church Cemetery. WT Nobles was very Methodist. WT would be a contemporary of Daniel's children. Warren lived 1802-1878 and his son WT lived 1841-1915. They came to Montgomery in the 1850's. I am giving the webpage a complete makeover. Hopefully, I will have it ready in the next week, I'm trying to learn a different program. If anyone has any family pages to link to or would like to see another link added, please let me know. I'm hoping to get some new records online soon now that I am about settled in my new house here in Williamson County. Guess being in Montgomery County for 45 years spoiled me as these people are totally different. Searching for knowledge of the late Mahlon Taylor Tavenner of Montgomery Co., TX. Is there anyone out there that might have known him or his family. I am attempting to put together information of the Tavenner's of Missouri, of which he was born. He died 4th November 1990 at 76 years old. I would be interested in learning where he was buried, his wife's name and children's names. I understand that he had two daughters. Would appreciate any information concerning this family. Thank you, Lois Rose/CA
