    2. John Robinson
    3. Hello, I am looking for information about a group of Robinson families that lived in Montgomery Co. Texas during the years 1870-1880. The census for these years show that the following men were head of family groups: 1870 John Robinson age 50 b. Alabama James Robinson age 24 b. Alabama 1880 Lee Robinson age 25 b. Arkansas John W. Robinson age 61 b. Alabama John W. Robinson Jr. age 34 b. Arkansas Lee Robinson is my great grandfather. I am trying to prove (or disprove) ties with the ³Alabama² Robinsons listed on the census. Can anyone help with information about any of these family groups? Happy to share information I have on my line. Thank you, John Robinson

These are abstracts from various early Texas newspapers which contain events such as death notices, marriages, crimes, and lots of other genealogically relevant trivia. Most of these are late 1800s through early 1900s. 3. County Pioneer Days offers old time entertainment for children By: Erika E. Durham, Courier staffJune 07, 2003 Area children are encouraged to give the PlayStation a break this summer vacation and enjoy some old-time entertainment. The Montgomery County Heritage Museum's ninth annual Pioneer Days is just a month away and plenty of space is still available. The weeklong day camp, open to children 9-12 years old, offers a hands-on look at what pioneer life was like. "In addition to the old favorites of churning butter, dipping candles and washing with a rub board, we have added some new activities," Museum Director Gertie Spencer said. These include grinding corn to make corn bread, piecing quilts and an up-close look at cotton plants and covered wagons. "We have fun with this," Museum Assistant Director Angie Walker said. "Not only do the kids get to learn about many of these activities, but they also do them." Walker said children walk away from the program with a newfound appreciation for modern-day conveniences. This year's camp will feature a Sam Houston look-alike in full costume, who will visit with the children while they enjoy refreshments. Other camp activities include cutting logs, spinning and weaving, printing on a 100-year-old printing press and the experience of writing with a quill pen in a one-room school. Space is still available for the afternoon class of the first session and both classes during the second session. The first available session will be from 1-4 p.m July 7-11. The second session will take place July 14-18. Approximately 20 students will be admitted for each class. All classes will be conducted at the Heritage Museum, located at 1506 Interstate 45 N. in Conroe; cost is $25 per student, which covers refreshments for the week. For more information about the program, call (936) 539-6873 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. ©The Courier 2003

    3. This was passed on to me and thought it would be of interest if anyone is going to be in the San Antonio area this summer. <<<< 'Saw an article in Sunday's June 1, 2003, page 36A Houston Chronicle about Historic Papers going on display in San Antonio Witte Museum, entitled American Originals: Treasures from the National Archives". In this show will be a rare, 4-day display in Mid June of the Emancipation Proclamation by President Lincoln in 1863. The American originals will remain in San Antonio until Sept 1. Other documents will include: Beginning in 1682 with the order by the Viceroy of New Spain that fixed a southern boundary of New Mexico and ending with Nixon just-in case moon speech. Other prominent documents include the finalizeed 1803 Louisiana Purchase & the Civil Rights Act of 1964 signed by President Johnson. Also of Texas interest among them the credentials present to Congress by Sen Sam Houston in 1846; & a draft of President Johnson;s 1968 address in which he announced that he would not run for re-election.>>>>>>>>> thanks, Jane

    3. I attended this event last year and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I took a friend whose family was from Angelina County and she learned some things about her family. I really enjoyed the seminars and the rubber stamp booth :) There were LOTS of books to look at, and specialty booths like Native American/Indian heritage and military specialists. If you are able to go, don't miss it! 2. relppek
    3. I finally got to go to the archives here in Austin today. Was not very impressed, guess they wasn't in a mood to say an extra word (like most of the people around here). Anyway, I found a book with the Scholastic Index of 1854. It just lists the parent or guardian and the number of children between 6-16. Until I get them online, let me know if anyone needs a named checked to see if they are on this list. Jane Keppler sponsor for Montgomery County TX www.rootsweb.com/~txmcghs/index.htm
