From the Messenger published in Wise County, Texas. June 23, 1888 On an Old Charge DEPUTY SHERIFF TUCKER of Montague County brought to Gainesville Wednesday JOHN MOORE, who he arrested near Spanish Fort Saturday on a capias from San Saba County, where he is wanted to answer a charge of murder committed three years ago. When arrested, he was traveling with a team said to have been stolen in Kansas. Two fights occurred on the line of Cooke and Montague Counties, near Hardy, Tuesday evening, in which the weapon used was a hammer. The first was about the removal of a fence and the parties were JOHN MCNEIL and ROE WILSON, in which the former was struck with a hammer and badly hurt. The other fight occurred about two miles distant about the same time, between two brothers-in-law, AUSTIN PERRYMAN and MR. EMERSON, about the latter’s little son tramping the former’s potato patch. Perryman was nailing a gate when Emerson approached in a threatening manner, and Perryman dealt him a blow on the head with such force as to crush the skull. Emerson’s condition is said to be critical and fears are entertained concerning his recovery.
