I have not been able to find him in the census records. He was married to Mary Shankle 3 March 1867 in Huntingdon, Tennessee after the death of his first wife Sophronia Brinkley Horton. William and Sophronia had at least four children; Charles Horton, John Payton, Sophiah Ann, and William Hiram. William and Mary had at least three children; Mary Elizabeth, Nathan Edward, and George Henry. I am descended from William and Sophronia through John Payton, who migrated with the cattle drovers to western Colorado in the late 1800s. Thanks,
