TX Rebecca Lucier needed a project for her Gold Star Girl Scouts Badges which is the equivalent to a Boy Scouts Eagle Badge. She, with the help of her mother Diane set out to survey the Burkburnett Cemetery. This turned into a bigger project then they expected! Not only did they survey the Burk Cemetery which is now online at http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/tx/wichita/wichtoc.htm but they also were able to borrow the Funeral Home Records from Owens and Brumley in Burkburnett and scan the actual Funeral Records. The master index is online here http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/wichita/funeral/owen-brumley.txt Then while they were working on all of this, they discovered an unknown African American Cemetery in Burkburnett called "Journey's End" and were instrumental in getting it mowed and cleaned up and found proof of many, many burials at the cemetery that were in unmarked graves. Diane and Rebecca are leaving Wichita Falls this week. Diane's husband was stationed here at Sheppard Air Force Base and they are retiring to Idaho. I just want to thank both of them for ALL of the hours and hours of work that they did for the community while they were here. Diane has left me with DVD's of the actual Funeral Records. These records are similar to a death certificate and have birth and death dates and in many cases if the family knows, the name of the deceased's parents.
