He was a blacksmith and his wife's name was Olivia. After the civil war, he was left with on leg. The story goes .... Jacob was always publicly harrased by this man, and when Jacob returned after the civil war, this man continued his hazing. Jacob agreed to meet him out on the street. He told the man to give him a minute to lay the "stub" down that he used for his lost leg. Then he hit the man with one punch in the face; the man fell to the ground and was pronounced dead. I have heard that there is a man, surname of Cole, that ran a small museum in Saint Jo years ago, and he told this story as part of Saint Jo's history. I am very interested in learning more about this tale. If you have any information, or know how I can reach this man named "Cole", please let me know by responding to this post; or email me at laskowv@earthlink.net. Thank you.

D. QUEENER, a young man, was shot and killed by his partner, GEORGE DILL, the combatants being the proprietors of the saloon. The difficulty grew out of some partnership matters. Both men were armed with six shooters and were locked up the saloon alone when the battle took place. Queener was shot through his body and died instantly. Dill was not injured. Queener came from Tennessee a short time ago and his body will be shipped there for burial tomorrow. Dill surrendered today to a deputy sheriff and claims that his act was justifiable.
