Funeral services were held March 30 at the Friendship United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Fulton and the Rev. Rich Cromwell officiating. Burial followed in the Friendship Cemetery. Pope was born July 17, 1915 in Milam County to David Ross McQuary and Prebble Walker McQuary. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Sharpe, Buckholts, Banquette and Alice school districts. She was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jewel "Dick" Pope; brother, Jim McQuary and a grandchild, Sarah Ehlers. Survivors include sons, Bob Pope of Naperville, Ill. and Wayne Pope of Temple; daughter, Margaret Ann Ehlers of Lake Jackson; brother, Sid McQuary of Thorndale; sisters, Irene Weydell of Rockdale, Lucille Hilliard of the Friendship Community and Dorothy Calloway of Beaumont; and five grandchildren.
