Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, in the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Pastor Jim Platt and Glynn Rolan officiating. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Mrs. VonGonten was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale and a 70 year member of Ladies Aid and Womens Circle, a Sunday School and piano teacher and the church pianist. She enjoyed cooking coffee cakes and homemade bread and playing cards and 42. In her later years she would check in and visit with shut-ins. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred F. VonGonten on Dec. 15, 1984; parents; brother Earl Noack; sisters Pearl Holley and Ruby Whiteley; step mother Leona Brokenbush Noack. Survivors include son Wilfred A. “W.A.” VonGonten and wife Frances of Pearland; daughter Velmalene Williams and husband Walter of Yoakum; brother Leon E. Noack of Rockdale; two sisters Della M. Keen of Rockdale, Helen L. Perry of Rockdale; four grandchildren, Diana Weathersby, Virginia Helaire, Karen Capo, Stephen and Susan Vallhonrat, Charles, Janet, and Thad Titone; eight great-grandchildren, David and Matthew Weathersby, Jonathan and Christian Capo, Charles Jr. and Andrew Vallhonrat, William and Samuel Titone; and a host of other family and friends. Pallbearers include, Alan Noack, Steven Noack, Steven VonGonten, Robert VonGonten, Stanley VonGonten, Drew Cartwright, James Perry and Bennice Johnson. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 312, Rockdale or to the charity of choice.
