Washburn was shot through the right arm at Franklin, Tenn. The arm was amputated at the shoulder. For several years he has resided in Milam county, and like thousands of other wounded confederate soldiers he has endured his loss without a murmur. Two years ago, F. English, Esq., of this place visited Franklin and on the ground where Washburn was shot he cut an ash stick and has just had mounted with silver with the following inscription: “Presented to Wiley A. Washburn by his comrade for gallantry on the battlefield at Franklin, Tenn., November 1864.” Mr. English saw Washburn fall when shot.
