Funeral services were held at Sept. 11 at First United Methodist Church in Pasadena with the Rev. Kip Gilts officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston. Spilman was born on July 1, 1924 in Cameron and was the oldest of four children born to Eddie Mae (Cannon) and O.B. (Bis) Horstmann. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Pasadena. Her love of music went into her work in the music department of Pasadena Independent School District, where she was employed for 32 years. She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward A. Horstmann; and grandchild, Ashli Nicole Spilman. Spilman is survived by her husband of 47 years, Calvin C. Spilman; sons, Calvin C. Spilman Jr., John M. Spilman, and Mark E. Spilman; brother, Lane Horstmann; sister, Margaret Coffman; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
