Mrs. Hopper died Thursday, Aug. 29, at her home in Lexington. A resident of Lexington since 1998 and formerly of Weslaco, she was born Nov. 10, 1920, in Grenada, MS, to John and Martha B. (Allen) Horton. She married Riley E. Hopper on July 31, 1943. Mrs. Hopper was a secretary at the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce for 18 years. For many years, she was president of the Women’s Missionary Union at Lexington and a Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Hopper was a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, reading recipes and playing games with her family, and she was an avid reader. Preceding her in death were her parents; three sisters, Leoline Horton, Edna Prather and Mamie Young; and a brother, John Allen Horton. Survivors are her husband, Riley Hopper of Lexington; a son, James Hopper and wife Ginger of Sealy; a daughter, Trudy Holland and husband Gary of Lexington; four grandchildren, Stephanie Hopper of Maui, Hawaii, Jason Hopper and wife Rachel of Castle Rock, CO, Craig Holland of Salt Lake City, UT, and Jodie Rexroat and husband Jeremy of Venus; and a sister, Mildred Baker of Walnut Cove, NC. Pallbearers were Craig Holland, Jason Hopper, Jeremy Rexroat, John Young, Don Young and Gary Holland.
