A. Hairston [nee: Rebecca Watson], 80, died suddenly Thursday afternoon at her home, 602 Ackerman, after spending the day with her family and her son from Dallas. She was born in Milam County south of Rockdale, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. William W. Watson, pioneer citizens of this county on March 4, 1878. She was the wife of the late R. A. (Dick) Hairston, who was county commissioner for many years. Mrs. Hairston was an active member of the First Baptist church, she had lived here about 41 years. She was the mother of Harvey Hairston of Dallas; Loy Hairston, deceased; and Mrs. Cecil Grabener of Rockdale. Surviving also are four grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Cook of Rockdale. Funeral services for Mrs. Hairston were held at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon from Phillips & Luckey Chapel, conducted by Rev. J. N. Foreman of First Baptist Church. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Here for the funeral were: W. H. Hairston, wife and daughter, Dick Hairston and wife, Jim Hairston, Mary and Felix Doran, all of Dallas; Mr. & Mrs. R. A. Gregory of San Antonio; Mr. & Mrs. Lovell Hairston of Luling; Mr. & Mrs. S. T. Whitted of Austin; Mr. & Mrs. Wright of Houston; H. D. Gallion of Smithville; Charles Grabener of El Campo; Mr. & Mrs. Massey of Caldwell; Mr. & Mrs. Bart Jackson of Cameron; Mr. & Mrs. Roy Ferguson of Milano. Pallbearers were: A. N. Graham, Y. E. Fuguson, Martin Jackson, Bill Payne, L. V. Hairston and Ray Woods.
