"Shorty" Morris, 79, of Rockdale were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Paul Kethley of St. John’s United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was at 3 p.m. at Forest Park East in Webster. Mr. Morris died Tuesday, Sept. 3, at his home in Rockdale. A Rockdale resident for the past 20 years and formerly of Houston, he was born Oct. 2, 1922, in East Prairie, MO, to Roy F. and Vera E. (Golladay) Morris. He married Lynda Frances on Oct. 16, 1944, in San Marcos. Mr. Morris was a private airline pilot for Texas Eastern Transmission for 30 years before his retirement in 1982. He was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force. Preceding him in death were his wife, Lynda Morris, on May 3, 1992; a daughter, Lynda Veliotis; a grandson, Dillon Spears; two sisters, Mildred Hearne and Betty Johnson; and a brother, Glenn Morris. Survivors are a son, Todd Morris of Austin; two daughters, Kay Sanders and husband Joe of Bacliff and Karen Spears and husband Chuck of Pasadena; also, four grandchildren. Pallbearers were Harold Lankford, Jim Ness, Andy Kirk, Tom Martin, Roy Noack and Bill Luckey.
