Born in Brady to Buford and Eloise (Lawler) Sheffield on Aug. 14, 1932. He graduated from Brady High School in 1951 and attended Baylor University, where he played football for the Baylor Bears. He was involved in ranching and the International Harvester business in Brady for 15 years, and also a baseball coach for young boys. The family moved to Brownwood in 1968, where he was a cattle buyer as well as being in the construction, restaurant and car business. He had been a boxing coach at the State School, a Cub and Boy Scout leader, and was a 38-year member of First Baptist Church Brownwood. He is survived by the mother of his five children, Ann Ricks Sheffield; his sons, Allen Ross Sheffield and Russell Glenn Sheffield; daughters, Sharla Ann McCarty and Carolyn Kay Day, as well as sons-in-law, Don McCarty and Mike Day, all from Brownwood, and daughter-in-law Roberta Sheffield of Grand Prairie. Also surviving him are his seven grandchildren; Misty Huse, Lauren Sheffield, Jordan Ross Sheffield, Tyler Ross McCarty, Kristen McCarty, Mallorie Maxwell, Hayden Ross Day, and great granddaughter, Ashley Huse. Niece and nephew, Sheryl Whitworth of Brady and Jamie Wall of Dallas as well as many cousins and friends. Preceding him in death was his son, Mike Sheffield, from Grand Prairie, as well as his sister, Linda Wall, and his parents, Buford Ross Sr. (Slim) and Eloise Sheffield of Brady. Buford was very involved with many of the men in the Success House of Brownwood, a halfway house run by his son, Allen. He was loved and will be missed by many of his close friends. Nicknamed “Daddy Bo” by his grandchildren, he was involved in each of their lives and a spectator at all of their activities and a supporter of their various endeavors. As a tribute to honor him, they will continue to knock him home runs, earn merit badges in Scouts, and strive to be their best at whatever they do! We Love You. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Services of celebration will be Thursday, June 15, 2006, at First Baptist church at 2 p.m. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends charitable memorials be made to any of the following: Success Industries Literature Fund, P.O.
