Rev. Darren Donaldson of Mt. Zion Baptist in Minerva officiated. Mrs. Benson died Tuesday, Aug. 15 in Cedar Hill, where she had resided for 2 years. She previously lived in Rockdale. She was born Jan. 4, 1907 in Hewitt to Cecil Raymond Travis, Sr. and Eva Francis Case Travis. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Gohman in 1941 and Walter Benson in 1985; her parents, Cecil Raymond Travis, Sr. and Eva Francis Case Travis; two sisters, Delmer Travis and O’Dell Travis; a brother, Robert G. Travis in 1984; a stepson, Arthur Benson; and two grandsons, James W. Schlottman and Billy C. Rogers. She is survived by a son, Roger Gohman and wife Priscilla of Santa Teresa, NM; three daughters, Helen Cumbie of Rockdale, Marie Schlottman of Hearne, and Jane Blackshear and husband Joe of Cedar Hill; a brother Cecil R. Travis and wife Joyce of Bryan; two sisters Frannie Mae Mathews and husband Elmer of Rockdale and Rosa Lee Straub and husband David of Houston; and two step daughters of Houston, Barbara Smith and husband James of Houston, and Peggy Dunn and husband Johnny of Milam, Texas. Also by 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Benson was a homemaker and lived most of her life in Milam County. Until her move to Cedar Hill, she was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Minerva and was most recently a member of First Baptist Church of Cedar Hill.
