Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10 at Black Jack Baptist Church in Black Jack with Rev. James H. “Buddy” Morton officiating and Rev. Kyle Morton assisting. Burial followed in the Black Jack Cemetery. Mrs. Morton, a homemaker, was born Sept. 18, 1919 in Milam County to Charlie A. and Roxie A. (Springer) Rogers. She married James Franklin Morton on Feb. 19, 1938 in Rockdale. She was a member of Black Jack Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and gardening and was a member of the Quiltin Bee’s. She also enjoyed being with her grandchildren. Mrs. Morton was preceded in death by her husabnd, James Morton; two sisters, Barbara Edney and Charlene Wilhite; brother, Alfred Rogers; great-granddaughter, Maggie Schneider. Survivors included three sons, James H. “Buddy” Morton of Black Jack, John Wayne Morton of Thorndale and Gerald E. Morton of Rockdale; daughter, Ann Morris of Black Jack; two sisters, Bernice Shelander of Kilgore and Doris Crim of Tanglewood; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers included Jamie Hibbler, Kevin Hibbeler, Stephen Hibbeler, Wesley Morton, Brian Morton and Eric Morton. Memorials may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
