Funeral services were held 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 at First Christian Church in Rockdale with burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale with Rev. Craig Wills officiating. He was born on Feb. 25, 1919 in Rockdale to Alfred Adolph Sr. and Lula Mae (Alexander) McVoy. He married Hilda Gest on June 11, 1943 in Rockdale. Mr. McVoy was the owner and operator of McVoy Grocery and Feed Store in Rockdale from 1943 to his retirement in October of 1999. He was also a lifelong cattle rancher. He was a member of First Christian Church in Rockdale and received the Elder Emeritus award and was board member for many years. He was also a lifelong member of W.O.W. He was also interviewed by Tumbleweed Smith in 1999. Mr. McVoy enjoyed participating in domino tournaments and never missed a domino game on Tuesday and Thursday nights. He served in the United States Army during World War II and graduated from Rockdale High School in 1936. Mr. McVoy was also a member of the Rockdale Historical Society, V.F.W. and a volunteer fireman for over 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Hilda McVoy of Rockdale; three daughters, Janice Pelzel and husband Bobby of Rockdale, Lori McVoy of Rockdale and Mary Jo Bennett of Conroe; sister, Winnie Leona McVoy of Rockdale; niece, Melanie Todd and husband Brian of Rockdale; eight grandchildren, Geff Gebhart, Jenny Frei and husband Scott, Jason Gebhart and wife Sunny, Hilary Bennett, Justin Bennett, Jody Pelzel and wife Kathy, Judy Pelzel and Kevin Pelzel; three great-grandchildren, Courtney Gebhart, Joshua Pelzel and Christa Pelzel. Pallbearers include Geff Gebhart, Jason Gebhart, Justin Bennett, Scott Frei, Bobby Pelzel, Tommy Nienaber and Jody Pelzel.
