Brian Bauer of Peace Lutheran and Rev. Herb Lammert officiating. Burial followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. She died Nov. 11, 2002 at her home in Rockdale. Miss Backhaus, a lifelong Rockdale resident, was born July 5, 1959 in Rockdale to Alton and Betty (Gest) Backhaus. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale. Miss Backhaus was a Rockdale High School graduate, graduate of Taylor Hospital Nursing School as an L.V.N. and a Medical Lab Technician from Temple College. Retired, she was a volunteer for Heavenly Treasures in Rockdale and was serving on their task force. She was also an avid bowler. Preceding her in death were her father, Alton Backhaus and her grandparents. Surviving are: Mother, Betty Backhaus of Rockdale; brother, Randy Backhaus and wife Kay of Rockdale; sister, Janie Lightsey and husband Steve of Fairfield; nieces and nephews, Christopher and Kyle Lightsey of Fairfield, and Morgan Backhaus of Rockdale; aunts and uncles, Eleanor Lamkin of Rockdale, Juanita and Cooper Ward of Taylor, Billy and Marie Gest of Rockdale and Willard and Agnes Backhaus of Pearland. Pallbearers were Brad Gest, Chris Lightsey, Kyle Lightsey, Dusty Loewe, Justin Loewe, Kurt Backhaus, Darren Backhaus and Steve Lightsey. Memorials may be made to Peace Lutheran Church Organ Fund.
