Larry Griffith of First Baptist Church in Thorndale officiating. Burial was in Locklin Cemetery near San Gabriel. Mrs. Cast died Friday, May 20, at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. A resident of Thorndale for the past 37 years, she was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Waco to Earl Sterling Sr. and Sylvia (Dent) Sterling. She married John Taylor Cast on Dec. 29, 1957, in Galena Park (Harris Co., TX). Mrs. Cast was a teacher for 35 years, teaching in Thorndale, Galena Park, Harlingen, Beaumont and Rockdale. She retired from Rockdale ISD as a special education teacher. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Thorndale. Mrs. Cast was a graduate of West High School and North Texas State University. She had a master’s degree in education. She and her husband owned and operated Bakery Cafe in Thorndale for 10 years. Mrs. Cast was preceded in death by a son, John Cast, on Sept. 27, 1987; a brother, Paul Sterling; and her parents. Survivors are her husband, John “Buster” Cast of Thorndale; a daughter, Catherine Ann Cast of Thorndale; a brother, Earl Sterling of Waco; a sister; Doris Mears of Gholson; and three grandchildren, Michelle Rivard of Rockdale, Jesse Taylor Garza of San Antonio and Sabrina LeeAnn Miller of Taylor. Pallbearers were Kenny Gifford, Frank Felton, Darrell Towery, Jesse Garza, Gus Pete Schramm and Trey Schramm.
