Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Pecan Street Church of Christ in Rockdale. Burial followed in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale. Mrs. Burks was born Dec. 25, 1934 in Tanglewood to Jimmy Morrison and Etta V. Marion Morrison. After 42 years, Mrs. Burks retired as an RN at the V.A. Hospital in San Antonio. She was preceded in death by her father, Jimmy Morrison Sr.; brother, Jimmy Morrison Jr. and step-father, Clyde Gates. Survivors include two sons, Marvin Burks of San Antonio, Ernest Burks and wife Cynthia of San Antonio; step-son, Jack E. Bomar and wife Lynn of San Antonio; daughter, Renee Burks of San Antonio; mother, Etta V. Gates of Rockdale; a sister, Vivian Wilburn, and husband Elihue of Rockdale and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were Marvin Burks, Jack Bomar, Fred Harris, Ernest Burks, Cornell Morgan and Earl Woods. Honorary pallbearers were Elihue Wilburn Sr., Charles Embra, Alphonso Gates, Preston Gates and Elihue Wilburn Jr.
