Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Friday, April 29 in the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Calvin Springer officiating. Burial followed in the Gause Cemetery in Gause. Mr. Mitchell was born March 26, 1915 in Gause to Willie and Ida Bell (Stone) Mitchell. He worked as a dragline operator for Gifford and Hill Sand and Gravel in Hearne, Navasota and Bryan for 32 years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal Maude Silvey Mitchell on Sept. 1, 1982; second wife, Ratha Lange Mitchell in Nov. 2000; parents; brothers, Willie, Jim, Johnnie, Daniel Webster and Tommy; sisters, Rosa Anna, Elizabeth, Ida Bell, Emma and Lillie Mae. Survivors include son, Jesse G. Mitchell Jr. and wife Kathy of Gause; three daughters, Nelda Hunn and husband John of Bryan, Janice Posey and husband Byron of College Station and Laverne Degelia and husband Frankie of Bryan; brother, Henry Mitchell of Orange; two sisters, Ida Barnett of Gause and Ellouise Smith of Hix; 12 grandchildren, Jayne Nichols of Waxahachie, Dean Mitchell and Beverly of College Station, Lanette Hanna and Russell of College Station, Eric Mitchell and Lisa of Waco, Michael Nichols and Jessica of San Diego, CA, Jeremy Nichols of Iraq, Matt Hunn of Pittsburg, Jessica Black of Huntsville, Johnathan Posey, Jason Posey and Joseph Degelia of The Woodlands and Jonathan Degelia of Plano; four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Dean Mitchell, Eric Mitchell, Michael Nichols, Tommy Ray Mitchell, Paul Mitchell and Joseph Degelia.
