Robert Herald of St. Joseph’s officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Mrs. Lewis died Monday, Oct. 14, in a Houston nursing facility. A resident of Rockdale for 50 years, she then lived in Beaumont for five years and in Houston for the past two years. She was born Dec. 29, 1913, in Alco, LA, to John A. and Louanna (Brown) Wise. She married Caleb Warner Lewis in Leesville, LA, on Sept. 28, 1935. Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale. Preceding her in death were her husband and four sisters, Nellie Edwards, Evilina Edwards, Sweetie Lewis and Eva Parker. Survivors are a daughter, Linda Yates of Houston; a brother, John Wise of Nederland; two sisters, Mag Singletary of Leesville, LA, and Doris Leonardy of Nederland; two grandchildren, Heather Dalton and husband Clay of Houston, and Corey Yates of Houston; and a great-granddaughter, Hannah. Pallbearers were Johnny Yates, Paul Dixon and Clay Dalton.
