Hairston, 74, of Bay City were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Bruce Bonner officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck. Mr. Hairston died Wednesday, Oct. 2, in a Houston hospital. He was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Milano to the late William and Emma Poole Hairston. Mr. Hairston was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and a resident of Bay City since 1949. In 1990, he retired from Bay City Auto & Sales as a salesman with 43 years of service. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of Bay City Masonic Lodge No. 865 AF&AM, a member of the Bay City and Houston Shriners, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Survivors are his wife, Helen Doucet Hairston of Bay City; a sister, Juanita Noack of Houston; two nieces, Pat Holly and Beverly Crowell, both of Houston; a nephew, Billy Hairston of Rockdale; and a sister-in-law, Lee Ida Hairston, of Rockdale. Pallbearers were B.J. Krenek, Gary Krenek, Arthur Milberger, Lindsey Thompson, Dick Crow and Robert Toney. Honorary pallbearers were Frank Baker, Joe Birkner, Kirby Dismukes, Fred Holub, Fred Law, Mayor Charlie Martinez Jr., Cecil Mask, Joel Morrow, Mike Pruett, Lynn Quillin, Billy Earl Robertson, Landa Schraub, Bill Thompson, John Underwood, Les Wenk and all his coffee buddies.
