Funeral services were held April 5, at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel Roucloux officiating. Committal with military honors followed at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery. Barker was born June 30, 1928, in Rockdale, to Frank and Annie Armstrong Barker. Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict, receiving the Korean War Service Medal. He married Joyce Lynn Sturdivant of Austin Sept. 18, 1954. For over 50 years, Carl owned and operated with his wife, the Barker Wallboard Supply Co., retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Windsor Park Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Lee Sturdivant. Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Joyce; son, Carl Wayne Barker; daughter, Nancy Barker Hansen and husband, Bobbie; five grandchildren, Michelle Hansen, Amber Barker, James Ross Barker, Zoya Barker, Amanda Lynn Hansen; and one great-grandchild, Samantha O'Toole; brother, Roy M. Barker and wife, Doris, of Austin; and sister, Betty Sue Gresak and husband, Adolph, of Buckholts; sisters-in-law, Virginia Woods and Vera Scott; brother-in-law, Dwight Sturdivant and wife Judy; and Lee Sturdivant's wife, Patsy; and by special friend and caregiver, Russell Richey.
