He will be cremated and his ashes laid to rest in Barksdale next to his mother and father. Holder was born in Raymondville Jan. 20, 1930 to Perry and Bonnie Belle (Stovall) Holder. He graduated from high school and attended Baylor University one year before joining the army. He was a member of the army band at Fort Hood. After service, he studied music in Chicago. The Holder family moved to Cameron in 1952. The following year, he received a scholarship to North Texas University to study music. He met Mary Kathryn Miles and they married Oct. 1, 1954. After living in Chicago, Dallas, Monterrey, Mexico and Houston, he returned to college and earned his degree at the University of Texas in Dallas. He graduated magna cum laude. He returned to Cameron after graduation to work in the Holder Tax Service. He suffered a stroke in 1988 and another in 1989 and was in nursing homes in Cameron before moving to Terrell. Survivors include his son, Miles Holder and wife, Brigette, of Carrollton; daughter, Carol Ann Barrett and husband, Bill, of Reno, Nev.; sisters, Lou Bradley of Ft. Worth and Norine Holman and husband, David, of Rockport; and grandchildren, Nick, Daniel and Andrew Holder of Carrollton.
