D. White, Sr., 98, died in his sleep on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at his residence in Rockdale after several months of slowly declining health. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Rockdale with Dr. Steve Washburn, Rev. Carl Hudson and Rev. Richard Leggett officiating. Interment followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale. Mr. White was born Sept. 2, 1906 in Murray County, GA to Francis White and Ella (Brewer) White. He married Carrie Lovingood on Aug. 3, 1928 in Maryville, TN. In 1952 was transferred by Alcoa to Rockdale Works where he was a shift foreman in the smelter. On Sept. 2, 1971 he took mandatory retirement from Alcoa. He was member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church and Rockdale Masonic Lodge. Mr. White was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie White; parents; sons, David White Jr., Gary White and Gilbert White; daughter, Joyce Allen; son-in-law, Leonard Allen; grandson, Carl Allen. Survivors include two sons, Waylon White and wife Jan of Baton Rouge, LA and Bubby Byrd and wife Alice of Irving; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Zachry Allen, Tony White, Casey White, Blake Allen, Jason White and Randy White. Memorials may be made to The D.D. White Fund at Citizens National Bank, 140 E. Cameron, Rockdale, to benefit Meals on Wheels and Meadowbrook Baptist Church roof note.
