Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Cameron Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cameron with Rev. Earnest Taylor officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Kelley was born June 4, 1916 in Cameron to Coleman and Rozena Kelley. He spent his entire life in Milam County and graduated from Cameron Colored School in 1939. He had been a member of the Cameron Grove Missionary Baptist Church since age 6 and was baptized at age 13 by the late Rev. P.R. Humble, church founder. Throughout his years, he and wife Shirley were involved in many church, school, community, and civic activities, particularly those associated with the West Cameron community where they raised their family. He was a member of Cameron Lions Club and was employed by Alcoa until his retirement in 1981. Subsequent to his retirement, he used his mechanical, carpentry, and general working skills to assist many people in the Cameron community. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Lillian; brothers Oliver, Arthur, Coleman and Rev. L. D. Kelley; and his wife, of 52 years, Shirley M. Williams-Kelley. Survivors include his five children, their spouses and grandchildren, Margaret Kelley, M.D., Lauren Kelley, Portia Ingram (Marcus), Jennifer Kelley, Natalie Kelley, Mark Kelley, David Harmon Kelley, Marlon Kelley, Marvin Kelley, Courtney Ruth Kelley, Erika Constance Kelley; two great-grandsons, Cameron and Kai Ingram; and a host of relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to the Cameron Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cameron or the charity of their choice.
