Calvin Springer officiating. Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Clark died Monday, Aug. 14, at Manor Oaks Nursing Center in Rockdale. A lifelong resident of Rockdale and the Forest Grove community. She was born Jan. 28, 1903, in the Forest Grove community to Thomas Jefferson Carver and Emmer Frances (Alford) Carver. She married James McGinnis Clark on Feb. 12, 1921, in Thorndale. Mrs. Clark attended school at Hamilton Chapel and was a graduate of Sam Houston State Teachers College. She was a school teacher and taught at Hamilton Chapel, St. Andrews and Thorndale schools. Mrs. Clark was a member of Rockdale Full Gospel Church and the New Salem Home Demonstration Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, James McGinnis “Mack” Clark; three sons, Edwin Clark, Rufus Clark, Howe King “Pete” Clark; three brothers, Edgar Carver, Thomas N. Carver, Oscar Carver; four sisters, Effie Carver, Eula Lee Carver, Lottie Alice Carver, Allie Mae Carver; a grandson, Howe King “Petie” Clark Jr. [KIA, Vietnam]; a great-granddaughter, Valarie Ann Timmerman; and her parents. Survivors are a son, McGinnis Clark and wife Betty of Houston; two daughters, Edna Timmerman and husband Albert Jr. of Rockdale; Ethel Guthrie and husband Allan of Coahoma; two daughters-in-law, June Clark and Margie Clark, both of Rockdale; also, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers included were Paul Clark, Ken Clark, Roger Clark, Glenn Smith, Brian Smith and Greg Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Gus Clark, Wesley Henson, Douglas Springer, Wayne Roberts and Jonathan Muston. Memorials may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 2626-B South 37th St., Temple, TX 76504, or to your church. = = = = = Jewel was the great-grandaughter of Henry W. Cave and Nancy Bass. Her paternal grandparents were: John Thomas Carver and his 2nd wife, Martha Cave Knight Carver. Martha was first married to James S. Knight. She was the grand-niece of several Cave Brothers who fought for the Confederacy ... two died, Wayne Cave and F.M.
