He was born Aug. 17, 1934 in Robertson County and was elected sheriff of Milam County in 1976, having been a trooper for the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) since 1959. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cameron, Sheriff’s Association of Texas and the Texas Peace Officers Association, having been a peace officer for the last 36 years. Mr. Broadus was a member of San Andres Masonic Lodge #170 of Cameron, and Edwin Hardy American Legion Post 9 of Cameron. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at First United Methodist Church in Cameron. Rev. Tom Kennedy officiating. Burial was in the Bremond Cemetery with Masonic graveside services. Survivors are his wife, Patricia Broadus of Cameron; one son, Michael Broadus of Austin; one daughter, Sandra Glaser of the Wilson Community; his parents, Aubrey and Addie Broadus of Hearne; two brothers LaVern Broadus of Tyler and Jerry Broadus of Hearne; also, two grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
