Black, 71, died April 2 at Regional Medical Center Hospital in Cleveland, Texas. He was born in Hearne and served in the 96th Infantry Division for 36 months, 18 in the Pacific, was a coach for 32 years. In 1979 he retired and designed and patented an all-sports towel and established “Sweat Buddies Inc.” for 14 years. His family has set up the H.C. Black Memorial Fund, Pediatric Ward, Cleveland Regional Center in care of First Bank and Trust, Cleveland 77328. He is survived by his wife Ella Jane Titsworth Black; daughter Jeana Bakke and husband Rick; grandchildren Randi and Katie Bakke; sisters Sue Vogel, Sydell Gadd and Harriette Ellen Jones; and step-mother Margaret Black. Mr. Black was a 1944 graduate of Rockdale High School and was a telephone company manager in Rockdale for 31 years.
