Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Rosebud with Rev. Joseph Suneet officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rosebud. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud. Mr. Puente was born April 5, 1917 in Laredo to Alcadeo and Juana Castro Puente. He lived most of his life in Rosebud. He married Paula Guardiola, Enedina Castillo and Cecilia Correa. He served in the United States Army during World War II and fought in the invasion of Normandy on D Day. He worked as a Barber, Furniture and Auto Upholstery, and retired from the Belfalls Electric Cooperative in Rosebud. He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. He loved to go hunting and fishing and working in his shop on upholstery projects. In the afternoon, you could find him under his favorite tree sleeping or telling stories about his youth to his friends. He also liked to drive his green pickup around town helping his friends. Ben will be greatly missed by his family and friends who admired his “can do” work ethic and no nonsense attitude. Mr. Puente was preceded in death by his three wives; parents; brother, Emilio Puente; sister, Rosa Alba. Survivors include three sons, Vincente Puente, Jr. and wife Mary Rose of Lorene, Raymon Puente and wife Nancy of Rockdale and Willie Cortez and wife Mary of Austin; daughter, Janie Puente of Dallas; brother, John Puente of Milwanukee, WI; two sisters, Anita Herrera of Chilton and Eva Gonzales and husband Tony of Dallas; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; extended family survivors include two sisters-in-law, Esther Castro of Waco and Josephine Castilleja of Robinson.
