According to Department of Public Safety reports, Vicki Lynn Brooks was driving a 1998 Ford Escort northbound around 10:20 p.m. when she attempted to pass another vehicle. Witnesses from that vehicle told authorities that when Brooks' car came back into the lane one of the tires blew out. Reports state that there was no evidence of a blowout. The car then left the road way and struck several trees. Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene by Milam Count Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Melanie Reed. Also in the Brooks' vehicle were passangers Frankie Brooks, 64, and Donna Council, 60, both also from Calvert. Both were taken to Scott & WHite Hospital by StatAir helicopters. Reports list that Frankie Brooks was in serious condition with lacerations and broken bones. When transported, Council was in critical condition with internal injuries. Both Vicki and Frankie Brooks were wearing seat belts, but it was unclear if Council was belted in. DPS trooper Mark Berry investigated the accident.
