Surnames: Barnett, Buse, Bailey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hkB.2ACE/7218.2.1 Message Board Post: Michael, I think (but have not proved) that Jubilee BARNETT, born about 1822 in Georgia, was the brother of my ancestor, John B. BARNETT, born 4 Aug 1816 in Madison, Morgan County, Georgia. The BARNETT family moved from Georgia to Alabama around 1830 to 1835. John and several of his siblings moved from Alabama to the northeast portion of Mississippi around 1844. Known brother of John is William BARNETT. Known sister of John is Mary Ann BARNETT who married Wiley BAILEY. Strongly suspected brother of John is Madison Page BARNETT. William and Mary Ann signed affidavits for John in support of a petition for disability due to military service; in these affidavits, William and Mary Ann stated their relation to John. Madison also signed an affidavit, but did not state his relation. Suspected siblings of John are Jubilee and Elizabeth BARNETT who married Benjamin BUSE. When Jubilee died in Mississippi, he left William BARNETT as guardian for his children, among whom was your ancestor James. This William BARNETT was likely the brother of Jubilee BARNETT, and thus Jubilee was the brother of John BARNETT. There may possibly be some half relations in this mix, as well. All this is important because John BARNETT left a paper trail a mile wide in his quest for his military disability pension. He applied and was refused several times, thus the affidavits from his siblings. In one of these documents, John BARNETT provided a list of places where he had lived since he was born (what joy!). In another document, he states that he was known as John B. BARNETT to distinguish himself from his father (who must therefore have been John BARNETT). What is true for John BARNETT will also be true for Jubilee, if they are indeed brothers. I will e-mail separately a timeline for John BARNETT that I created to follow John in his travels across the southeast. I am happy to share with you any information I have. I would love to know more about the family of Jubilee BARNETT. Susan Ball
