Galveston Daily News Sat., 26 January 1878, p. 2, c. 4 "Mischief to Pay in Milam - Nearly Everybody in the County Indicted for Something" Rockdale, Jan. 25 - The Rockdale Co-operative Association, composed of nearly all the Grangers in the county, have been indicted for dealing in tobacco without a license. They took out license in the name of their association, when it appears that each members name should have been given. The ignorant has no mercy for the law is the way they quote a familiar legal maxim here now. Some three hundred indictments have also been issued by the county attorney, for this county for the non- payment of the dog tax due on the 1st. The dog men say it is conspiracy on the part of the officials to secure the $10 in each case, as the matter was kept quite till the indictments were put in circulation. At present the signs are good for a worse dog war than was had in the House when Shack Roberts wanted the bill amended so as to exempt the dogs of all widows, orphans and every other man. A large pigeon roost near here has been the resort of promiscuous sportsmen for the past week. Thousands of them are murdered every night, but still they come. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Lynna Kay Shuffield P. O. Regretfully, the author of the book "170 Years of Cemetery Records for Milam County, Texas" has refused to waive her copyrights and allow this list to respond to queries using her book. Since her book, which is a combination of her work and her father's book, "150 years of Cemetery Records for Milam County, Texas" are the only two books of cemetery records for the county, no one on this list can provide the requested information in response on this list unless she releases her copyrights, which she has stated she has no intention of doing until she has sold all of the copies of the book she had printed. Further, since she will not release her copyright, it is the policy of RootsWeb and USGenWeb to respect those rights and it would be a violation of those policies to respond using copyright protected information from her books to respond to queries. However, what someone does privately, in an exchange of private e-mails and NOT on this list, RootsWeb & USGenWeb have no control over ... Thanks ...
