Tom Williams, whose cranium caught the ball, is still alive, but the physicians who have passed sentence on him say that, if he does not die, another damaging case will have to be recorded against the profession. The consoling though the negro’s friends have is, that he was shot in the head instead of some vital spot = = = = Galveston Daily News – Thur., 24 Oct 1876, p. 1, c. 3 Rockdale, Oct 23 - Tom Williams, the nergo who was shot in the head about a year ago, died here this morning. Though his physician, Dr. A. C. Walker, probed the wound when it was first made, and inserted the instrument at least 3-inches into the negro’s brain, the recovered, and, with the ball in his brain, has been doing hard manual labor ever since. As Dr. Walker predicted, however, he died suddenly of the pressure of the leaden bullet on the brain. It is a very singular case and interesting in surgery.

Somehow, they connected with a Curtis family but, originally, the birthdates of our Sarah Gorda Curtis and the middle names were not the same. I haven't found out how they finally connected them but, it makes interesting research and I haven't done my homework so, can't really disavow the Autry line. Eddie has tied her in to the LDS Lorenzo Dow Curtis and Lucenda Autry line. I really hope it is true because it would save a lot of problems and work. * REQUEST on the AUTRY lineage of Burleson Co. and Milam Co. We show a marriage of LUCY ANN (CAVE) rabon DODD to Lewis Autry in Burleson Co. Tx, 1872. DOES anyone have any AUTRY lineage leads on this aux family?
